Tech Tip- Slipping Boost Hoses

You can get some spray adhesive at your local auto parts store and try to reglue it. But your best bet is to take your truck to a trim shop and have a new headliner installed. Cost should be around $100.

The factory glue for the headliners seems to be attacked by Stetson aftershave. The cowboy that I bought my truck from had to have the headliner reglued after every big date or barn dance that he attended.

I just noticed that the headliner(thin gray cloth material) is becoming unglued? from its backing. Only the driver's side so far but it is down about an inch. Any lower and it will start brushing against my cowboy hat. Has this happened to any of you and what did you do about it?

It’s a keeper.
 
I had the same thing happen to mine when I bought it 2 years ago. I spent quite a bit of time and money to attempt it myself. The adhesive they sell at the store is NOT strong enough in heat to hold it up. Save yourself some time and get it done by a pro. The shop that did mine said the store stuff will hold to about 120* where the stuff they use will go past 400*. It has been over a year and not a bit of trouble.

Coupla of thoughts, the top of the cab, under the headliner is finished and looks fine in my 89 gas burner without the head liner. Or if you want to repair the headliner, remove all the trim, carefully pop the hardboard headliner backer out of the truck and reglue with the best 3M spray adhesive you can find. Much easier to do with the headliner out of the truck. Not a hard job at all.
 
I will be taking the truck into a shop to have the headliner repaired next Monday. It will removed, the old foam scraped from the stiff masonite-like back and new foam glued on. The foam is about one quarter inch thick with the bottom(the part that shows) covered with a thin fabric material. It is the foam that deteriorates due to heat and moisture causing the headliner cloth to drop. Cost will be $95 plus tax and the work will be done in less than one day within walking distance of my home.

It is 41 degrees outside right now. Guess I will wait to have it fixed until summer. I don't wear my cowboy hat that much in the winter time anyway.
