Can any of you knowledgeable gentlemen provide me with a solution for resticking the fabric on the headliner? On my truck it is starting to fall off along the front by the windshield. Probably as a result of the sun hitting it so much.

Any suggestions appreciated.

The repair depends upon the condition of the foam under-liner. If the foam isn't degrading then a repair can be made. Expose some of the foam around the edge and run your hand on it. If it crumbles then a completely new headliner is in order. You can temporarily keep it up with thumbtacks or very small screws. I had an old Buick I used tacks on for a few years.

If the foam is in good condition you can buy some spray on adhesive made for fabrics. I saw some by 3-M a while back. Call around some auto shops, and upholstery shops .

Scott:

Thanks. The headliner material itself is not crumbling. Will check with some auto upholstery shops. It sounds like it is a spray glue similar to what can be used to mount photos to bristol board.

Will post, if successful.

Wal Mart has some funny looking thumb tacks made for headliners, clear plastic with a cork screw looking pin. They were in a plastic bubble on a card near the RV stuff, who knows why it was there but somewhere in automotive anyway.

I was gonna mention that, as a guy just came through my line with those last night (I'm a Wal-Mart Associate).

As far as the spray glue stuff. Don't waste you money (and time!)

All your gonna get with that is sticky hands.

Call a upholstery shop it may be cheaper than you think.

I called a custom shop that specializes in window tint and other accesory things (including headliners). $70 to be redone in factory color clotch.

$50 if I buy a certain flag I want to have it done in. :D

Followed up on Deezul 1's suggestion. Visited Wal Mart and finally found Prym Twist Pins in the fabric and sewing section. They took care of the problem in fine fashing and are barely noticeable.

For you non domestic types (me included) they are used for fastening doilies and other protective and decorative covers to couches and upholstered furniture.

Thanks for the input guys.

Thats funny, In the local Wal-Mart they are in the automotive,RV section and the card they are on says for sagging headliners. Glad they worked for you.

I've replaced many headliners - easy to do.

Just beware of using staples, etc on the headliner. Too many holes in the backing will create a mess later. This is due to holes degrading the rigidity of the backing (they are made from foam, plastic, fiberglass etc).

If you need a new headliner and can't find info on how to replace it, just let me know.
