I'm looking for a headliner for my 91. One that needs to be redone would be nice unless there is one out there that will match my interior color. It's that light/dark blue kinda sorta color. I've looked in the local wrecking yards and haven't found a thing. So if anyone has an old one, I'll buy it.

Thank you

Dave

I redid my tan headliner myself for around $15-$20

The fabric complete with foam backing can be purchased at a fabric store. Near me it's a place called Joann's Fabrics. My girlfriend went and picked it up and it was between $5 and $10

The old fabic can be removed and the remaining 'fuzzes' from the foam cleaned off with a stiff bristled brush.

Cut the fabric so it slightly overlaps the entire headliner board. Use something like 3M spray adhesive and lightly cover the board and the back of the foam backing. Wait a few minutes and place them together and gently press them together

My liner had dropped this winter and so I removed the plastic molding around it and sprayed the glue onto the cardboard. The liner stuck well... ... ... ... ... . for three days time. Now it's dropped once again.

I don't understand about the new liner kit "foam" backing. How is "foam" going to support the headliner "fabric" when the foan can't support it's self. That's strange. Pep Boys has a foam liner kit but have no clue how it's supposed to hang from the ceiling. Weird. I have two trucks to do and no clue as what to do. But then that's no so rare I suppose. Having two first gen diesels I mean.

On my 86 I used some Black trunk carpeting from JCwhitney (very fine nap, almost fuzzy). The trick to making it work is to get as much of the old liner/foam backing off as possible... . without destroying the actuall liner board. Then spray BOTH the liner and the board with a thin layer of adhesive (3M makes some really good stuff), let it dry and carefully spread it out, working from center out. Did mine over 3 years ago and it`s held up great.

I think Dave is looking for the molded piece that the cloth glues to( I think). . Mine(cloth) just started falling down too.

I redid my 91 chevy with a headliner kit I bought at Pep Boys. I think I'm going to go there and see if they have a light grey kit and redoo my Dodge. . It's not that hard but like the others say, You have to get ALL the old sponge/foam backing off in order to do a good recloth..... 3M is the stuff to use...

Yes, the molded piece is what I'm looking for. I do plan on having a professional do the work due to the fact my amature attempts have failed.

Thanks

Dave

I love it......

... ... ... My amature attepts. Oo. :D :-laf ROF

That'd be me Dave!!!

The bright side is that we are only an ammature one time.

Going to repair mine 'fore it wears the hair off the top of my head

Headliner

This is for the really cheapskates among us.

There is a banding strap material that is one and a quarter inch wide. This is husky stuff with some spring to it. Use about one foot and shape one end of it to the curve of the interior right over your head. (About six inches of curve and six inches of near straight. ) Smooth both ends but especially the end that will be pressing against the headliner. Tuck / slide the other end under the plastic trim piece and it will keep the headliner off your head. Do both sides and the wife / girlfriend won't be complaining about their hair do being ruined. Don't try to go all the way across, it will droop in the middle. On the 93 extended cab, there is a screw in the trim strip that you could fasten the strap with if you are an enterprising lad. Course that would just be extra work to make the hole in the strap. All three of mine have been 'rigged' like this for a couple of years now. Remember to shape the strap to near the correct bend as the plastic isn't any too stout to start with.

Dave, I have the headliner out an 84 standard cab that is in pretty good shape. Disremeber whether you have en extended cab or not. Let me know if it will work for you.

Cerberusiam,

I think that may work. I don't think they made any changes since then.

And no, I have a standard cab so it should fit. Let me know what you want for it and how much to ship it and I'll send you $$.

Thank you very much

Dave

I've removed the headliner totally on two 1st. gens. the cab top is finished so it looks fine. At least to my eye.

Good luck
