2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Headliner Replacement?

Has anyone replaced the headliner in their club or quad cab? My truck lives outdoors, and ten Arizona summers have done in the headliner. It's turning to dust.



Are aftermarket headliners available? How difficult is the job?

so painfully simple... pull the headliner board, run up to the local fabric store, lay the board on the table and the lady will cut you however much headliner material you need. stop by Home Depot, get some 3M 77 spray adhesive



rip the old material off, brush/dust the reminants of the foam material off, give the board a healthy dose of the spray adhesive, lay the material on it (start from one end and kinda 'roll' the material on so you don't get bubbles or creases)



trim the matrial to fit the board, etc.



reinstall



makes the truck look so much nicer inside and is so simple to do

Yup... Unlike cars from many years past, our headliners are attached to a foam board and held in place by the trim. As long as the backing material is in decent shape, replacing the material is as easy as posted above...

I didn't even think about that, but... about the 'easiest' I can think of is to pop the back window out! you MIGHT be able to fish it out one of the side doors without creasing it, but

Well, I must have gone WAY overboard trying to get the old stuff off. Took me half a day. I don't know that I want to do it again. The upholstery fellas I got the material from told me not to use the spray adhesive unless I wanted to be doing it again in a year or two. I used a quart can of some stuff they recommended. I think it was just contact cement. It was easy enough. Just poured it on and smoothed it out, then laid the material down and smoothed it out. I think it turned out very well.

they were pulling your leg... I've done tons of headliners. I used to use fun-fur on the headliners of hot rods... heavier than regular headliner material. The one I did in my old squaremont is still hanging tough after three TX summers... and the one I did in my 97 CTD is still there after 5yrs



3M 77 is the stuff you need. not the cheap parts store junk.

So, how much of the old stuff has to come off. I got ALL of it off on mine. Is that necessary or overkill? I tried several tools, also, and finally settled on a 5" pizza cutter. :-laf (No kidding!)

I just peel the material and then use a wire brush or something to get the lion's share of the old foam off of the board... I spray the board and the material w/ the adhesive. Never had a problem.



sounds like you'll LITERALLY never have a problem w/ yours!
