Last year I created a 'HUD' that interfaces with a Vascar/Radar/Lidar unit. I used a Compaq Pocket PC v1 for the display, a hood and polarizer to keep the sun from cooking it, a 3"x3" piece of metalized Tint for the 'see through' reflector to increase reflectivity of the windshield. The comm link was a simple blue tooth evaluation card ( they are available now ) and the display font was simply Arial reversed.

In a Crown Victoria short cops couldn't see the display. Its a narrow angle view as you are looking at a reflection. It's also annoying because your focus is beyond the display and the 'interfered' area is distracting.

Worked well but was too simple an idea to sell to law people. They wan't more expensive stuff. Might be good for track use though.

We do use HUD camera displays and MDT terminals which hang from the visor and are truly see through, adjustable for any angle, focused at infinity, and can be flipped out of the way. It resembles a speech teleprompter that you can see through, you can see the MDT and the suspect car without changing eye focus. That was another drawback of the reflected unit. Cop Shops spend lots of tax dollars for these! ($1200 - $3400:eek: )

Just thought I'd spout off before shutting down the CAD for the night!

I'm definately interested. I'd love to be able to have boost, EGT, and fuel pressure in a HUD. Bad thing is, all my friends would want me to haul out to the rodeos cause I'd definately have the coolest truck. :D

interesting I had posted replies last year on this topic that seem to have disapeared... Anyhow for those wondering what ever happened they would not make us a unit capable of the boost numbers that even a stock truck can make. I tried to no avail with the company to make changes and they told me to take a hike, I thought I read someone was able to get them to do this?
