That's right, just about home, hear the infamous "ding ding", look down "check gauges" dummy light is on - look over 0 oil pressure:--) , throw her in nuetral and shutdown.

Long sory short, installed a temporary pressure gauge and have about 60 pis at idle. Because of the time it took me to get the gauge, the truck was cool. When I started the truck, the OEM gauge was working fine.

Looks like I have to go to the dreaded dealer and have a re-flash done.

Thought you guys might be interested in case this happens to you.

Take it to dealer, reflash. .

Drive it for couple days, now your gauge won't go down to zero anymore and reads 3/4 the way up no matter what.

Take it to dealer, replace oil psi switch.

Now it's OK:D :D :D

Don't know why they just don't replace it the first time!

George,

TMTT replaced his oil pressure sending unit back in May or June. Was really easy to do. Send him a PM, I can't remember how much the sender was:confused:

Holy dummy guage Batman!!!

Batman, think twice about the reflash. The reflash basically turns your guage into an idiot guage. After the reflash, the guage will always show good pressure regardless of what it really is. I had done and I wish I hadn't. Buy a new sensor and do it yourself.

Same thing happened to me. My problem was just the connection to the sender. It got broken some way, now it doesn't have a solid connection and makes the gauge go crazy. I would try checking the connection first, then if thats not the problem, replace the sender. Seems to be common thing. Good luck!

George just wanted to take a drive in his Mrs. ' new ride..... he really didn't want the test gauge... .

BTW, my steak&cheese was excellent last night... . :D

Matt

Rub it in grease-boy... ... ... ... ... ... ... BTW, I drove the car to work yesterday, and today too.

Thanks for the info guys, looks like its off to get a new sender, if the wring checks to be ok.

Thanks again,

George

Hey man, this grease-boy loves what he does and has fun no matter what the situation!! :)

See... I knew you had oil pressure. You just gotta learn to not sweat the *ding, ding's* and use THE FORCE!!

Much to learn. . you have... .....

Matt

Same thing happened on the trip back home from vacation. The truck sounded fine, so I figured it was just a bad gauge or sending unit. Ordered a new sending unit from Cummins for $67. Took about 10min to replace. All you need is a 1-1/4" deep socket and be able to reach back to about the middle of the left side of the engine block. Torque it to 144 in-lbs.

Thanks for your help guys, I really appreciate it.

I bought a new sending unit (although the dealer called it a switch) for $43 last night, I will install either tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks again.

George

Matt..... your too funny:{

U Did Gud!

Batman,

You did excellent, getting a new sending unit for $43. When mine failed about 6 weeks ago, the dealer quoted me a whopping $238 for one. Told them they were out of the $%#@*&# minds. Went to Cummins Intermountain and bought one for approx $70. Took about 10 minutes to change and all's fine now.

Good Luck,

Frank

oil

This same thing just happened to me although comes and go's, just posted on it. The dealer called mine a sending unit and there is also a psi switch. The sending unit was $198. 00 ya my b&^^. Good thing it is under warranty. Hope this fixes it tired of spending all my time at the dealer. I ride in there shuttle and rental cars more than my own $40,000 truck, pretty sad I would say. :mad: :{

Oh ya one more thing, isn't it amazing how much the price varies on the same part:--)

Well, I'm not that lucky... ... ... . dealer gave me the wrong part.    As soon as I'm done typing this, I'm going ostal on the dealer (over the phone anywho). The last time they screwed me cost me to need a new DTT valve body.

I just joined the club

Batman,

I joined the no pressure club Sat. night, fortunately I'd read your post last week. My question is when you get the "check guages" light, does this set a code? Because the guage works now, not correctly but it moves. If I take the truck to the dealer to replace sender will they be able figure out the problem from the code? I'm thinking about doing it myself, but it bothers me, letting a legitimate warranty item slide. Any suggestions?

Tom

Mine has worked intermittently for years. I just listen to the engine. If it ever starts rattling like its coming apart you dont have any oil pressure.

T Peterson... ... . welcome home (to the club that is). After my truck cooled down the first day, the gauge would work, although intermittantly. I checked for codes and didn't have any that pertained to the guage. For the hassle with the dealer (I've had problems everytime I took the truck in), I would recommend doing this yourself. The below might help you out.

OK, returned the incorrect gauge to the dealer. They wanted about $191 for the actual sender & they had to order it, so I told them GFY... ... I'm going to Cummins. Called Cummins, gave the engine number and bought the correct gauge for $74. As stated by DAT 1-1/4" socket, 24" extension, got at the sender through the wheel-well. Removed the fuel filter canister (by the two mounting bolts to the head) and re-installed the sender. Now it works.

Thanks again for all the info.

Be safe,

George

TSB#09-001-01 ?

Just got my truck back from dealer, the paper work says they replaced the oil pressure sender and did a mandatory reflash(above #). States "Reflash for oil pressure concern". They told me every time you change the oil pressure sending unit on certain engines(depending upon build date and #'s) you must do this flash. After doing a search on the reflash it sounds pretty fishy. So tomorrow I'm going to keep a closer eye on my pressure, may even unhook the sending unit to see if I get a reading of 40lbs. I also did notice a slight loss of power, but that could be in my head. I suggest those of you with this problem do a search using TSB#09-001-01 and read up, it sounds like a fix all to me. Another cheesy way around the real solution. I did check my sending unit and appears clean and new, so i do believe they changed it. They also charge DC 4 hours of work for a 1 hr job... ... Good luck,,,,,,,,,,:--)
