Here is a interesting device that claims to improve fuel mileage. Anyone familiar with the Hydro 4000 device? Seems like a gimmick but maybe it would work. Any ideas??? Heres there website

I agree that it seems like a gimmick. Since it requires power from your alternator to produce hydrogen, you will burn more fuel. Thermodynamics says that you can't get more energy out than you put in. The only way for an efficiency gain would be if a very small amount of hydrogen improved the burn efficiency of the gas/diesel. It is very hard to believe that you could get a 60%(this doesn't even include the extra power needed to generate hydrogen) efficiency increase from this. I think these people need to take a thermodynamics class.

What I think you are missing here EKlem is the fact that the 3. 5 amps or so required for most of these electrolysis devices will not be missed by your charging system which is active anyway.

Turning your dome light on, or even your headlights or stereo, does not significantly affect your mileage, does it? Neither will this as far as "using more power than it produces' goes.

I, too, have been looking into these hydrogen/oxygen (the 2 components of water) systems. "Brown's Gas" it is called. There is merit to the idea since gasoline (not sure about diesel temps) burns at 500 to 600 degrees, whereas hydrogen burns at more than 1500 degrees. Introducing even a small amount of hydrogen into your air/fuel mixture should enhance the burn, eliminating a great deal of unburned fuel going out your tailpipe (where MOST of your fuel ends up). More oxygen will certainly help, too.

There are too many people trying this with positive results for it to be all hogwash. I view it as the same principle as using propane or even nitrous oxide, which we all know work very well at enhancing combustion. Check this out: Prototype car runs 100 miles on four ounces of water as fuel

It is simply the fact that hydrogen and oxygen can be produced "for free" from water that has too many people dismissing it as "too good to be true". I direct your attention to the Hindenburg if you doubt the burn properties of hydrogen and to the almost explosive properties of even the bedding in an oxygen-rich hospital room if you question the flammability of oxygen. Heck, that is the whole point of our turbos and intercoolers: to cram more oxygen into our cylinders. Not mere "air", which is mostly nitrogen and inert. The oxygen is what we're after. Does that turbo "rob more power than it produces"? No. It uses wasted energy and converts it to useful energy.

BMW is in fact working on a commercial application of this old technology. There are some fantastic advances being made by those who do not listen to the Big Oil interest's propaganda and instead are dammed mad and not going to take it anymore.

Big Oil certainly is NOT going to do ANYTHING to help our cause. They and their greedy pig friends, the OPECkers, like things just the way they are. All lies on their part. Our salvation will, as always, come from the little guy with the big idea or even just a slightly better mousetrap. The "Can do!" guy. It will NOT come from someone who simply says "It cannot be done. " That much is certain. A couple of dreamers working out of a garage, maybe. Sort of like those dreamers who thought a powerful and affordable computer in every home was possible... Silly Apple-munching dreamers...

Consider the broader possibilities: An electrical generator which is powerful enough to run your home that uses electrolysis to convert common water to hydrogen and oxygen. It runs on some of the hydrogen while compressing the excess into a storage tank. You use that hydrogen to both fill your hydrogen car, maybe even a hydrogen/electric hybrid, who's batteries it also charges. Maybe even your solar and/or wind enhanced home battery system. You also use the hydrogen to power your furnace to heat your home.

Suddenly, each homeowner is energy independent and the only emmissions is harmless water vapor. Do YOU think for one moment the Powers That Be will help develop something like this? Energy IS control. And total world control is the name of the game we find ourselves being made the pawns of. And we are paying dearly for our own enslavement.

As for your laws of thermodynamics, there is more potential energy in a glass of water than in an entire tank of gasoline. I direct your attention to the Hydrogen bomb... the surface of the sun...
