Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Heat shield on BHAF

I have been running without a heat shield on my BHAF. I have found the template to make one and will do so in the near future.

What are the benefits of the shield? Does it keep the EGT's lower?

I installed a heat sheild about six month ago. Dropped it about 100 degrees. I was real happy with that. Been running without one for 4 years.

100 degrees would definately be worth putting one on the filter.

Where did you find the template for the heat shield ,I was getting ready to start building one it would make it a lot easier if I had a template.

I'm curious if anyone knows how much more effective one of these shields is over the curved sheetmetal type that mounts to the turbo itself. I bought one that mounts to the turbo a long time ago before I knew there was another heat shield option. It looks decent but I am not sure of the effectiveness.

There must be allot of air still coming in the cold air port. The heat shield, I think, just acts more as a barrier of sorts to keep that air corralled around the BHAF. This is a pretty good benefit with the truck moving.



Upon shutdown, just about everything heats up under the hood. I did not really find that much difference at those times with or with out the heat shield.
