Ok... . Youre gonna love this one... My wife's 01 has the leather heated seats. The seats stopped working so I take it to the dealer... . Dealer calls me and says the heating elements for both seats(bottoms and seat backs)are burned out... The element is not replaceable so the whole seat has to be replaced... The cost??... . Are you sitting down????? $984. 00 EACH for the seat bottoms... and... . $850. 00 EACH for the seat backs!!! A little pricey for warm buns in the winter... I'll microwave a beach towel and run it out to her truck in thw winter at that price... . Anyone else out there run into this???Any innovative "cheaper" solutions????

I had one go out on my 01 and was told they could get a new wire kit for the seat but I would have to pull the leather cover and foam off and it may not go back on very nice. I took the bottom seat cover and foam off and worked the wires out of the foam and glue and found one wire was broke. I soldered it together and it worked fine. Just be careful with the soldering... the wire is very small and needs very little heat or solder.

Your truck was built too early to take advantage of the replaceable elemnets.

Anyway, the bottoms retail for $662 and $700.

The backs retails for $1215 and $934 :--)

Your TDR price for the bottoms are $436. 70 and $462. 00

Your TDR price for the backs are $801. 90 and $616. 00

I would recomend checking out those rostra aftermarket pads, because even with me discounting them, it's crazy!

I sent you a PM BTW with the prices for the elements, I wonder if they would work somehow? It would be a whole helluva lot cheaper. :-laf

Geno's seat heaters

I installed a set of Geno's seat heaters in my '98, and they work great, I see no reason that you couldn't make the elements work in your '01.

But I'd try to find the broken wire and repair it first, that is just your time, no money outlay.

Heated seats are necessary luxury in a slow-to-heat diesel.

different climate

In Glendale ?? Yep heated seats are just a 'so what?' unneeded complication.

But up here where it is never above 25* for a month or two and the truck takes 4 miles to get any indication of warming up, then heated seats are almost a necessity.

It's hard to concentrate on driving when your teeth are chattering!! And the parking spaces at the airport don't have plug-ins.

Airport Long term parking?

And when can I use a remote starter to start the truck in the airport long term parking?? Hit the start button as the airplane flys over the parking lot on final approach?? And the added complexity?? I thought you didn't like 'overcomplicated extra BS' ??

No thanks, I like heated butt warmers.

The truck stays in it's heated shop when at home but suffers in the cold in the airport parking lot with thousands of other vehicles.

My truck spends at 12-16 days per month in the airport parking lot depending on my flight schedule. No other way to do it except drive something else to the airport, and that's no fun. But I have considered a beater 12v 4x4 'airport truck' but they are still around $10K, and thats too much to pay for pampering my '01 or '98 more than I already do.

If you think those are bad, I asked for a price on my truck for the lower seat cover. Only the LOWER cover, just shy of 400 bucks. We haven't called them that name we are no longer allowed to call them for nothing. :)
