Heater coil stopped up

I had my water pump replaced by the recall about 6 months ago. Ever since it has been replaced my truck runs hotter. Stayed at 190 all the time before, now it runs between 190-194 going back and forth all the time. When it gets hot out and I am stuck in traffic it would go up to around 204. It never did this until they replaced the water pump. About a week ago it got real cold and my heat didn't work very good. Took to the dealer and they said my heater coil was stopped up. Just got it back yesterday. Covered under my warranty I asked about flushing out the system and they said it didn't need it. Now it runs between 190-197 and on he way home I got stuck in traffic and it ran up to 201 sitting still. Around 42 degrees outside. This is a closed system and the only way sometime could have gotten in there is if they got it in there correct. I am not going back to the dealer. They said they didn't get anything in with the antifreeze. How else could something have gotten in there to stop up the heater coil. I think that now my radiator could be stopped up a little to make it get hot sitting still. Something stopped up my heater coil. Any thoughts on this.

Sounds like a classic case of introducing HOAT coolant into a system that calls for OAT coolant to me.....

They would have to top the system off after the repairs. Did you ask what kind of coolant they used? If they used one that's not compatible with the OE stuff it could clog the heater core and cause the issues you are seeing.

The ram dealer did both jobs. And it was the diesel guy how did both. Looks like they would know what to put in there. At least you would think so. They says it’s not the fault.

If you said those were your temps without mentioning anything else I would say they are normal.

Well.....a RAM dealer in Huntsville, AL did a water pump replacement for me late one Saturday evening, outside the bay, in the lot. He was about to install the wrong stuff.....luckily I caught it before it went down the chute. It can and does happen.

When my Y pipe failed I asked the parts monkey for a jug of coolant to top off with an he looks my truck up by the Vin and says that it takes the orange 5 year stuff. I had to insist that it had the purple 10 year stuff in it from factory. Even showed him the sticker on the burp tank. Flash forward I get my water pump replaced under the recall. The idiot tops it off with the orange stuff. I bring it to the service writer’s attention only to get lip service that the coolant turns orange after a while. It was purple when I dropped it off in the morning. I got a free flush . But I’m still not happy about the screw up.

Dealt with the same similar thing. Not really overheating or running hot, just no heat. Truck has had the water pump replaced and made me wonder if the anitfreeze was intermixed. Flushed the heater core and had good heat for about a week...then back to no heat. I will say that I did flush a fair amount of sand out the first time! Didn't really look the 2nd and 3rd time flushing!! Added a coolant filter from Sinister (which is another story) and all has been well.
