2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Heater Core Replacement, who's done it?

I'm in the process of replacing my heater core (not a fun job by any means), and wondered if anyone else has undertaken this PITA task. From reading in the manual, I have to remove the dash and steering column, open up the AC lines, and remove the heater unit to get to the Heater Core. Any shortcuts/tips on doing this?

Off the subject, but just curious, what is the status of your truck after your little incident? Did they ever catch the SOB's?#@$%! #@$%!

to my fullest knowledge, they haven't caught the sack of crap yet. I just got part of the insurance money to do the body work, and I'm doing alot of other things to it that I had planned before this happened, so the truck is down for a month or more getting repairs and improvements.

Yep I just got through doing a heater core replacement on my 96 and its a real PITA! I did not take the dash completly out. I loosened everything and just swung the pasenger side out and rested it on a jack stand. I have some add on electronics behind the dash and taking it all the way out is not easy.

Morph, just a thought. As long as you are in there, ck out your A/C evaporator too. From reading on the site, some have had the evap. crap out early too. I don't know what the evap costs but it could be worth your while to replace it also when you are in there.

I replaced mine last summer not an ez job don't go to the dealed they charge 7 hrs. to do the job my buddy did it in three Yes the dash did have to come out I could not find an after market but did get one from Dodge to the toon of $250 with a discount. good luck. ski
