2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Heater grids & speed sensor?'s

My grids are working fine and come on when they are supposed to. However they dont shut off when they are suposed. If I recall the manual says that they come on from various inputs and that they will cycle for a max of 180 seconds or until your speed reaches 23mph. They have always worked that way until recently. Now they do not shut off from the speed criteria.



I can be driving 50+ and they still cycle until the 180 seconds is up. I also have a code showing P0501 which is not listed in my manual, 0500 is a speed sensor related code and have been told by marco that 0501 is also a speed sensor code meaning that what the speed sensor is saying doesnt jive with other inputs.



So I look in the manual to find out about the vehicle speed sensor and it says they are no longer used and that they have been replaced by the rear wheel speed sensor which is part of the abs system. My question is is where the heck is it? I cannot find any info at all about it in the manual. I read every line in the index, I have looked at every page of the brake section, sensor section, axle section etc and can find nothing about this sensor. Where it is what it is etc. Anybody have any info on it?
