So now right at 200K my heater decided to have a mind of it own.

I can get the heater to do all the functions accept open the vent for the floor. While in that selected position it is moving air through the dash & windshield vents I assume because it needs to go somewhere. I've tried ALL of the possible selector options including recirc button ON and nothing opens the floor vent. The rest of the cab gets warm but my feet are not. .

Anyone else here ever had or having this problem ?

Same here... .

Mine has been like this for over two years. Although mine is mostly coming through the dash (thank god). Im able to pretty much blow it off due to my place of habitat. Im glad it broke in this position due to the A/C being the selection of choice in So Cal.

When needing the windows to defrost I just use the AC button with the heater. From what I've heard it's either a solenoid (cheaper), and or the blend doors ($$$$$). Im inclined to think mine is a solenoid, due to the popping I hear from time to time under the dash.

Mac:cool:

I don't hear any sounds at all other than what sounds like some back pressure due to the floor vent not opening. So my guess is the blend doors ??

Anyone else having same issue?

Thanks for your replies.

It's a chronic problem. No floor heat on mine. The flow out of the vent seems too strong for normal, except on the passenger side. I found both detent tabs from the floor doors connector shafts on the carpet. I just haven't had the initiative to take the dash out and disconnect the heater core and A/C box to fix it.

I don't have any parts laying around on the floor mats, only what I stated previously. I'd really like to know what to do to solve the problem from someone that has had the exact same issue and fixed it.

Could it be electrical, mechanical as with a solenoid that operates the vents ? Surely, I'm not the only one here with this exact same problem. I'm no stranger to using my hands and tools and trouble shooting having been an electrician for 40 years. I just want to skip the BS and get right down to it and fix it from the get go.

Thanks again for your replies. .

Every once in a while my 04 acts up. I'll put it to floor but it will stay at the vents and/or defrost. All I have had to do is turn it off, turn it back on full blast and then it will start working fine. It has happened maybe four times in the five years I have owned my truck.

You could have one of the solenoids broke or more than likely the shaft stripped,It's just a sucky repair to do on these trucks.

Do a search on this site for: "HVAC Removal with Pictures". There are some other fixes that guys have done without removing the dash. You can search around on this site to find those also... one that "has had the exact same issue".

Whether one door is broken or another, it's all the same exact problem. You can fix it right or put a band-aid on it until it breaks again.

I suggest fixing it right, which means draining the coolant, discharging and disconnecting the A/C, pulling the dash and replacing the plastic doors with metal doors from Heater Treater. This is what I did and now I have heat or cold when and where I want it.

Anything less is just a band-aid. Hope this helps.

F'd up Heater

All this info, now thats what I'm talking about. Thanks to all you guys who've dealt with this issue and replied. I'm for fixing it the right way and by all means, I would never take my rig to any stealership, been there, done that in years past and had worse problems than before it went on.

As far as draining the coolant and such, I'll read up first on the suggestions.

I just wish I could buy an American made rig I spend $45,000. 00 on that will last longer than 100K. I'm sure many of you feel the same.

Thanks again to all.

Mine has done this occasionally too, and I have done the same thing you did. It usually happens when the truck is started for the first time, then goes back to working later in the day. I'm with all the other people who don't want to rip the dash apart. If I do get to the point where I do the dash thing I'll probably try to fix the lamp that is out on the right side of my oil pressure gauge along with the other stuff. Which door are we talking about that causes this problem--the one above the blower motor, or the one behind the climate control panel?

As far as I know, its which ever flap opens and closes that will allow the heat for feet. All other selected functions work fine e. g. defrost, dash vents, (open/close recirc air) however, when the recirc air button is activated and the floor vent air is selected, its more obvious that the floor vent flap is not opening by the sound level of air not moving through. Of course, blower speed is a factor as well. When in normal fresh air in mode, e. g. floor vent selected the air is moving up through the windshield and dash vents due to the back pressure from the stuck floor vent flap.

Now I'm starting to feel like a broken record... Oy vey!! Lol. .

I'm not too keen on rip'n my dash apart an all the rest as previously suggested IF I CAN FIX IT w/o all that. But I will do what I have to.

Fix it right, just like my TIPM inspired wiper problem that cost me a full day and probably$400 or $500 at the dealer. Of course it broke again withing a year or two. Fixing it right might be getting an interior and electronics not designed by Dodge.

My blend door fell atop the motor. It was easiest in the long run just to remove the fan motor and pitch the broken door. 10 minutes I have heat and air. I am not going to pay the dealer tear into the dash for an obvious design defect.

"Sorry for the rant".

PS. Love the driveline.

No need to apologize. .

Speaking of (TIPM inspired wiper problem) aka Multi-F'n Switch. . My delay wipers have had a mind of their own since I hit 100K. I want to finally replace it but am hoping THAT IS THE PROBLEM and not something else. Like motor control electronics (circuit board). What's really weird is, when my key is on and engine is off, the delay system works just fine like it should. . So all, anyone got an idea on that quirk ??

I should probably re-post this like I did way back in old thread. .

#@$%!

You will either have to pull the dash or cut into your HVAC box with a Dremel. Nope, none of that cutting for me. Do it right.

I finished watching the videos on removing the dash panels, just a bunch of screws. I was under the impression the whole entire dashboard needed to be removed, not so aparrently.

HOWEVER, in the video, he fixes the blend door problem and I'm not sure that's my issue. Mine is the floor vent staying in the shut mode and he did not address what needs to be done to fix it. I have sent an email to Heater Treater requesting a reply to that.

Thanks again for replies and any further comments !
