I have a bad upper ball joint and need to know if an aftermarket replacement exists? Any ideas would be appreciated

I know that NAPA has balljoints available but are non-greaseable. Mine are a little loose but have been holding out for greaseable units. If you find some good greaseable units let us know.

Advance Auto has an adjustable, greasable Northstar upper ball joint. I put one on my truck a few weeks ago, but I can't really comment on the quality yet. I got an email from xrfautoparts.com and they expect to have ball joints for 3rd gens by October. I called Moog customer support and they couldn't give me any idea of a time frame.

ball joints shot on my '03

Got a bad report the other day that both upper and one lower ball joints are shot at 55,000 miles. I have the DC top of the line extended warranty, which is good because the local front end shop wants $1100 to change them out.

Unfortunately, the local Dodge dealer won't install after-market greasable joints because DC won't guarantee anything they don't stock. Go figure.

Any other '03 owners having ball joint problems or am I the only one?

Warranty or extended service contract. You supply the aftermarket ball joints have the dealer give you the new factory ones. Should be no biggy unless the dealer is being a jerk about it.

Aftermarket v. OEM ball joints

Hadn't thought about that, Mr. Ketchum. I may try it, although my dealer may fall in the jerk category. Jeff, with 140,000 miles on his ball joints, is another one who should take his truck to bed with him every night. Incredible.

I finally had to replace mine at 186k. Teardown was simple but removing and installing the joints was a whole nother story. 208k now and they are still holding up just fine. Got mine from NAPA.

You'd think any component DC puts in a HD Ram would also be heavy duty. Even though my 3500 SRW is, theoretically, a 1-ton, it never hauls more than it was designed to haul and rarely gets off the pavement. You done GOOD! Wish DC would let me use NAPA parts, but no ...
