Towing with gas motor home

I have the stock DC receiver hitch with 2" receiver. The weight limit is 500/5000 or 1000/10,000 with load dist. hitch. Occasionally I have the need to pull heavy farm equipment; fertilizer tanks as an example. What kind of extra heavy-duty hitches are available and are being used that can take alot of tongue weight and load? I guess I am thinking about Ford's 2 1/2" receiver hitch they now advertise.

I am also curious what kind of options there are for pulling implements with out a clevice type tongue. Many tractors now have hitch bars that have an upper and lower with the implement having a single tongue which is then secured by a heavy hitch pin.

I just use the OEM receiver. Have a Schuck 750-RT-R to go with it. Does an EXCELENT job of taking the jerk out things. Better than even the DMI hitches. Cheaper too. :D

Never had a problem pulling anhydrous tanks or fertilizer buggies.

For the single clevis hitches, assuming there is the room that'll clear, you could try a pintle hitch.

Build something like this- #ad

Or, if you aren't going very far, and depending on the hitch weight, you could just use a straight clevis like we do, on short trips. #ad

Reese Titan V is a full 2 1/2" hitch raises the capacity to 14,000 or max truck (which I think the stock hitch already matches)

I just recently went through a search to find the strongest receiver hitch I could find, that bolted up to the Dodge frame. The big thing to watch out for is the wording, many that I ran into claimed in big bold print to be a 15,000Lb box end receiver, but after careful reading of the fine print turned out to be much less. Most ended up being a 10,000Lb-1,000Lb tongue rating with WD. I looked at Curt, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Pull Right and a local brand Shelton. The one I bought was the Hidden Hitch 12,00Lb/14,000Lb Box-end Receiver. It is a true Class V hitch, with 12,000Lb weight caring and 1200Lb tongue weight normally, and 14,000Lb and 1400Lb tongue weight with weight-distributing set-up. It is a monster, and comes fully welded in a box about 36"x30"x12" with a height of about 95 Lbs. I have used the factory hitch since new, but have doubts about it ability. The combination of scary post that have been posted one this site and the fact that i have already lost one trailer and don't feel like doing that again, prompted me to buy another and change it out. I am not saying the hitch I bought is the best out there, just the best I could find in the short time i researched it. I paid under 220. 00 for mine and was completely pleased. Good Luck
