Matt, I guess it is a matter of how you look at it. Though the 6. 2 is a POS, at least it was designed to be a diesel. The 5. 7L Olds diesel was nothing more than a 5. 7 gas motor with some extra gussetting. It was based off a design thats original purpose was not even close to what you were converting it too.



In my book, GM did no better than taking a gas motor and slapping a diesel sticker onto it.



I feel that we can thank GM completely for the average Americans stance towards diesels. :(

I completely agree. In their defense - there wasn't really anything else they could have stuffed into a car/small truck back then...



The 6BT was around back then... it already had quite a few hours on it when GM starting pouring the 5. 7L diesel blocks...

Once thing most people forget to factor in when considering the cost owning a diesel is the increased resale value of a diesel truck. When combined with the increased mileage and significantly lower fuel cost, a diesel truck is only way to go in my neck of the woods.
