Hey guys I just had a quick question for you all. My dad has a 1999 2500 4x4 auto(46,000 miles) with Edge E-Z, AFE Intake, Banks Brake & Smart lock trans brake. Any way his truck will heavily soot the driveway with thick oily soot while idling even with banks brake off. So what do you guys think is causing it? the Edge box or maybe a failed turbo seal. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

bad IAT causing to much fuel at idle?
as far as the EZ the smoke will be allittle more at WOT with the warmer OA temps but that wouldn't be a factor at idle.

Take a sniff of the exhaust when it's idling after fully warmed. If the exhaust smells like poorly burned fuel it is not the turbo. You have something going on that needs diagnosed soon. I would venture a problem with an injector, but quite possibly the VP44.

If the exhaust has a heavy oil smell to it then it's probably the turbo seal.

Thanks for the input guys, what should he expect to pay for a new turbo including install assuming thats what it is? Hey Brett, do you guys offer something to match his current set-up? As for injectors I never thought about that (truck runs great/no white smoke) as I own a 3rd gen. and don't know a lot about the 2nd gen. 24v. Thanks again!

Update: I can't smell anything out of the ordinary from the exhaust so we will start with a process of elimination. Ordered a new Afe Pro-Guard 7 and pre-filter to replace the ailing mega cannon. If this does'nt work I will search for a replacement turbo. Some of you guys metioned injectors but its seems to run ok aside from the oily soot stains on the drive way. Once again thanks guys. Jeremy I will see if I can get my Dad to come up to the Dyno days and see what you think.
