hey guys quick question for ya I noticed that my truck was throwing soot while at idle and i hadn't noticed it doing that before. is this normal? it was like 30 degrees. truck has 296,000 and i'm just being cautious i assume it is just the richness of 370's but wanted to check.

Merry CHRISTmas everyone :D

I wouldn't worry about it. Mine does the same thing. It didn't start doing it on mine till I got all that fuel runnin through there.

Merry Christmas

Eric

You should see the the white smoke my truck makes on a cold start, when it is 11* out, and not plugged in. You'd swear someone was burning wet leaves. Clears up fine when it warms up.

Need to get the timing advanced, so that would help some.

Since I got a digital camera that can also do video, I'll maybe make one and post it. That, and finally get some good pics of the truck, instead of the junky ones I have up.

Mine is the same way when it's coooold and I forget to plug mine it, I will have white smoke rolling out the stack before she even fires, when it finally fires you would thing's a 2cyl JD but when it start to warm up it comes back to it's normal wild idle.

It's amazing how many people almost break thier neck turning around to see what that is.

Mine does the same thing. Kind of black smoke. It gets a little better when it's really warm, but never really goes away.

Mine's a stock 215Hp with 370's.

Has anyone had a problem with blue smoke on a cold start up. My 97 leaves a cloud just sittin there, when i start drivin it will eventually clear up.

i guess i am wondering what blue means, good, bad, normal, i just dont understand what would be happening. I do have 4 inch exhaust, #10 plate, 370's and a hx 40. Could the 370's be makin it blue. Timing is at 17 degree.

You're probably fine. Diesel is oil, so that can make it a bit blue. If you were getting it on a very hot summer day, that may be a different story all together.

One thing I learned as alil trick is if you stand back in the cloud and the smoke starts to make your eyes burn it's fuel. If they don't burn it's something else.

Mine smokes really white if it hasn't been plugged in, but once it's warmed up it turns to a light gray haze.

Yep. My uncle had a diesel Allis-Chalmers D-17. It was making white smoke, but the headgasket was leaking water.

I get a grayish-blue haze at idle, or cold idle. Nothing unusual. Wish it was a black haze.

Seen a truck at Muncie. Think it was a black regular cab, with stacks, that just smoked black at idle. Got on the pedal, let out a huge cloud and had a pretty good response in truck movement as well. Anyone have clue who this could be? Really want to know what injectors it had in it.

Yep I'm sure a lot of the blue & white smoke is a result of the 370 injectors. They're a nice HP addition but the less-than-ideal spray pattern and large holes will give you more smoke. For those living in cold climates I would be concerned with carbon buildup causing sticky rings over time with smoky injectors. Vaughn

I'm happy with the 370's. Truely, for regular driving i'd rather have the blue smoke tint of this injector rather than black soot of bigger injectors, although no smoke would even be better.

No smoke, thats just not fun. Some peaple by these trucks used for the sole intention of turnin them up, smoke=power. I noticed a nice gain in low end responce when i added the 370's. O and it smokes like a battle ship to.

Hey, I was one of those guys like you are explaining, too. Maybe still em. And i'm not one of those guys that are against smoking. But after awhile, after it got to be a habit, it just got old, and annoying. Plus wasteful, and not great for the air probably either. Now I just don't make a habit of it, instead of doing it at every corner and randomly on the highway. It just got to be pointless to me. ;)

Oh, and smoke doesn't = power. Smoke = chance of greater potential for power. You can't make power on fuel alone... ... think why we're using a turbo..... :)
