Doesn't the abs prevent the rear brakes from locking up, even w/ full braking power? The only thing this might effect is in a hard stop the Abs will activate sooner.

My ABS is a joke. My rears lock up all the time, fronts too. On an F350 I used to have it had the same setup. I removed the valve, lever, etc. . and put a regular T fitting in place of that mess and all the brake problems went away. Ran it like that for years, loaded, overloaded, empty, towing, and plowing, never a problem.

I know... it was a Ford these are Dodge, but the principle is the same.

On my Jeep Comanche I made an adjustable link. Then took it out on a gravel road and adjusted the rear bias so that all four brakes would lock at the same time. Made a world of difference in the brake performance loaded and unloaded.

well, I looked all around, but no valve, I THINK... . Can someone post a pic on here of what it looks like?? I took the bolt out of the top of the diffy and turned that to the side, as I thought that was it... I guess that is the ABS, but it has the hoses going to it, so I thought that may be it... . Someone enlighten me on this, please.

If I unhook the rod and tie strap up the lever how far do I Move it, because if I was to go to far it would start to close down again wouldn't it? Thanks

careful

Be careful about how far you move the rod. The design is really close to the valves Chevy used in the 80s, and those would eat the seal if you went over center beyond the normal travel of the rod. When the seal got damaged, brake fluid would leak out of the center letting air in the rear lines. You then had air in the system, and low brake fluid sometime thereafter. I always removed the valve entirely. Hopefully the Dodge design is different, but finding out the hard way would not be good.
