Happy holidays from the St.Laurent's

A Must Try site -

We have mini-Church services on Wednesdays 4 weeks prior to Christmas. Theses are friendhsip "soup and bread meals" with a short service afterwards. I can cook pretty good but have never been much at soups and these days are for folks to experiment, especially on folks other than your family..... There are a ton of receipes on the WEB - but I would much rather have a recommendation from folks about their favorite that they know works... ...

Looking forwrd to some great ideas... ... my mouth is watering just waiting... ... .

I cook by "a couple of this, a few of that... . " never have taken the time to write down how much of anything I actually use. :-laf

My favorite quick & easy soup/stew thing that I can eat off of for a week or so is cabbage & sausage soup. Red cabbage, white cabbage, polish sausage, italian sausage, doesn't really matter but here's the basics I use:

1 big cabbage--I chop it up kinda coarse.

couple BIG potatoes--I chop up red potatos and leave the skins on.

1 to 1 1/2 pounds (insert favorite here) sausage. I like the Polish sausage or sweet Italian.

1 or 2 pint cans of chicken stock--beef stock works, too but I like the chicken.

1 onion--I chop it and it's always a Walla Walla Sweet. :D

1 bay leaf for flavor, 2 if I make a big batch--don't eat the bay leaf.

sea salt--I like salt, and sea salt is the best. Depending on the sausage you use, you may not need any more salt. Best to add this when finished if needed.

I combine everything into a crock pot and cook on low pretty much all day long. When I get home for lunch break--around 8pm--it's ready to go and very good.

There are fancier ways to make it with more ingredients but the core basics of cabbage, sausage, potatos, onions, and the chicken stock works for me.
