Hello, all,

So I've found my way back here again after five years. Used to have a '99 that I had to get rid of for a variety of reasons, which has been sorely missed. And now, I'm finally looking for another used CTD Ram, probably of the late-3rd gen flavor.

So before I go buying one, I'm trying to get up to speed again -- with the 2nd gens I knew to look out for the lift pump and the dread 53 block and all that stuff, but I'm behind the power curve when it comes to the 3G and the 6. 7 in particular. I've gathered that the DMF is, shall we say, 'sub-optimal', but I have a deep-seated loathing for automatic transmissions, so I'm probably stuck there. And it's sounding like the regen stuff has been smoothed out a bit with reflashes. So I'm just wondering -- is there any truck in particular that I'd want to avoid? I've seen a number of '07. 5s locally that look to be in good shape, but that whole early-generation thing always makes me wary (got my 99 with a bad lift pump and a 53 block :-laf ), so I'm trying to get a feel for what problems to expect. Should I just look for an '05 instead? :p

I hate asking general newbie questions like this, but I've looked through the buyer's guide and the FAQs and anything that looked pertinent, and now I'm just trying to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Thanks, guys. Hopefully I'll be joining your ranks again for real in short order.

Welcome back as for a truck I have had my 08 for 2 1/2 yr;s and 68,000 miles yeah it's had a couple reflashes but Nothing major has gone on and having a 6 sp auto with exhaust brake makes towing even better I think most of the bug's have beenworked out of theses thing's I would say test drive a few different truck's /combo's and pick from there . Good luck with what ever you find .

Nothing really major but if you're looking for an 07 I'd opt for an early 07 or even an 06 so you can stay with the 5. 9. Better or worse is an argument all in itself but they're definitely less complicated.

Thanks, guys. I know I like the 5. 9s; haven't driven a 6. 7 yet, though the baseline power figures are tempting. Figure I'll look for a test drive -- just wanted to make sure there weren't any trouble points I hadn't seen lurking out there...
