Decking my car trailer- Best wood?

Full-time Trailer

I recently purchased a Lance Camper. It's the 995 model that's 9'11" with the "basement" which puts the rig pretty high. I installed the Torklift hitch to extent the 2" receiver out for towing and installed the Big Wig. WOW, what a difference. We had been a few places without the sway bar and noticed the heavy lean. The wife was a bit unnerved with the sway as well as the big rig push on the two lanes when they'd pass in the other lane.

This last week I put a few miles on in central California in Hwy 49. This thing is like a sports car (a 11,000 lb one). It's an amazing difference.

The down side is I can't use the airbags to level it from side to side now :)... it just goes up or down, no more side to side!

Upgrade the shocks and you'll see another plus.
I have the standard Hellwig and it's a great product.

I agree with both suggestions. I've been hauling a heavy 11'6" Lance slide-in with the standard Hellwig for years. Removing the air bags and installing Torklift upper StableLoads also made a world of difference in minimizing sway. Both the anti-sway bar and the StableLoads were easy bolt-on no drill installations.

Big wig here as well, and yes, awesome stability with top heavy loads. Had on the on the last truck as well.

Helwig makes great stuff. Their shop is just 40 minutes west of me. You guys would surprised just how small their operation is. I'm guessing they have about 2 dozen employee's but it's not uncommon to see the shop guys working weekends now and then. Always greeted with smiles when I drop in.

installed the standard Hellwig on my 07 dually...we haul a Lance 981. Easy install, my wife noticed the difference immediately, great product!

We put the Big Wig on my dad's 06 and he can still use airbags for side to side adjustments. He routinely puts 10 psi more in the passenger side to keep it level and the Big Wig allows him to do that.

The Lance with the slide required about 10-15 lbs more on the slide side (passenger) to level it to begin with. I run that normally even with the Big Wig. Before I was able to make significant adjustment but now it only moves less than an inch. If you watch the rig when adjusting pressure it just goes up or down, not much side to side like it used to.

Of course YMMV :)

The sway bar itself by design would be trying to keep the rear axle parallel with the frame rails and should help level the truck side to side and the air bags being adjusted individually would only help.
