New mod. Installed the Hellwig sway bar after work tonight. Simple. Preparing for hauling the big old camper to AK next Sept for the eighth world wilderness conference.

Not sure if you received a answer yet. Been to Yellowstone for a few weeks. Yes it will clear a mag cover. It has a lot of clearance around the diff cover. It can interfere with aftermarket exhaust though. Good luck.

Howdy George, the Alcan trip won't be until next September - can hardly wait. You bet I'll be posting pics. I got my older Cascade camper from a neighbor for an 30-06 and three hundred bucks. So it won't be winning any awards for looks. In fact I might get barred from TDR for tastelessness.



The camper is actually a compromise to get my wife out of the motels when we travel. When I'm just traveling with the dogs and backpacking buddy, we use the "shack", i. e. a topper with extended plywood sides. It is roomy and has plenty of room for the mtn. bikes on the flatbed sides. Also works great during the winter for keeping things, and dogs, dry.



Thankfully, I'm done hauling firewood for the season. Got to love the big dually flatbed. No dents in the box like my 02

Thanks OTD. I been thinking Hellwig here for the BigFoot (I traded $10K for it--which beats the $65K motorhome just sitting there). I run the Fox T-Rex which is awesome at speed (like the Alcan) but like normal slow. Slow guys need the T-Rex with the Bilsteins. Gopher towns are much better with the T-Rex and camper I must add. I love the room beside the camper with the flatbed on. Going to make some nifty sides so ammo and stuff can be hidden away along the sides of the camper. Guy could throw a big buck on both sides! Firewood? Generators? Batteries for solar system? Might build a flatbed camper with side door and sell the BigFoot. Might... George

Lots of good comments on ease of install and such of the swaybar. But how do you guys like it overall as far as driveability? Do you notice less bodyroll when cornering? Would especially like to hear from the fellas with truck campers. By the way, the Alcan is in good shape all the way to Whitehorse. From there to the Mat-Su valley is pretty rough. I drove it in April, have a few pics in my gallery.

Our truck hauls a heavy truck camper, a Lance 1121, almost exclusively. For us the Hellwig anti-sway was a very good addition. The anti-sway bar isn't very noticeable running empty, but the results with the big heavy camper on board are very positive. With the combination of the overload spring spacer blocks and the anti-sway bar (see my signature), there is no movement from passing 18-wheelers and crosswinds.

I would have to agree with Bill that the sway bar helps a lot with the camper, but I think it is also very noticeable unloaded. I weighted the camper and truck combo at 13600lbs so it is very heavy camper (5800lbs). With the camper loaded I am able to add 10mph to posted speeds on the corners now with the sway bar. Unloaded - probably 20+mph on the corners. It does also help stabilize the load in strong wind with the camper. My truck is very simaliar to Bills with adjustable Rancho's, air bags, sway bar and larger bump stops. The wife never felt comfortable driving our older truck but with these options on the new truck she feels confident driving with the camper. I would highly recommend it to anyone carrying a camper in the bed.

The wife never felt comfortable driving our older truck but with these options on the new truck she feels confident driving with the camper. I would highly recommend it to anyone carrying a camper in the bed.

Yes, my wife drives our truck/camper combination regularly allowing me to take a nap while traveling. It's a very stable rig and easy to drive. I agree with Red Ramrod, the anti-sway bar and the taller overload spring stops should be considered on any truck hauling a heavy, high center of gravity load in the bed.

George, my thoughts also. I'll screw together some walls with access doors and have beau coup storage or a dog boxes.



I have little body roll with the dually truck empty because of the stiff hydroframe and duallies. The big sway bar difference will be with a truck load of firewood or the camper.
