This truck is my second Ram. I have had my 93 for 4 years and only recently ,replaced the alternator. I bought my 98 about 14 days ago and on about the 4th day, after purchase,it shut down on me. While cruising at about 55 mph the truck simply quit running and hasn't run since. THE pedal is difficult to push, not sure if there is a relationship here, just thought i'd mention it. The engine cranks over fine but the engine doesn't start. I'm new to troublshooting diesels, and terminology for that matter. Looking for advice before sending it high dollar guys!thanks

Thanks for your reply, Fireman. I'm not sure where the lift pump is located and what sound I should be listening for. Please help. Thanks.

The lift pump is attached to the driverside of the engine towards the rear and bottom. When you bump the starter you should clearly hear it running. If you don't then it is a good possibility that is the problem. But some things to check are make sure it is getting power. Fuses and multimeter/test light at the pump. The 24v's can run with just the VP if you absolutely have too, but can be very damaging to the VP. You are probably aware of the 24v lift pump/injection pump problems. I picked up a 98. 5 off a dealer lot last year for my brother in law. I checked the fuel pressure before we purchased it and it was 0. It also died at that exact moment. Kind of unlucky. The dealer was going to hold me responsible for the dead truck. Talked to my brother in law about it and he decided to buy the truck which we promptly installed a Glacier/Walbro kit on. The problem was the truck was almost 4 hours away. So with trailer and another CTD I wandered back up. Got it running on just the VP to load it on the trailer and home we came. Nearly a year later the Walbro is doing good, but the VP is on its way out. I am surprised it lasted this long after being underfed for who knows how long. Hope you get it running.
