Truck has been running terrific. This AM go out and no start. Batteries are fine, turn key on - ac blowers on, radio on, turn key to start - nothing. All power goes off until I return key from start position then the radio and power back . I checked all fuses, etc. There is a small relay or something under the fuse box and mounted to fender well with 13mm bolt that clicks when the key is turned to start. Just figures - always on Sunday.

And it is 114 outside and of course I left my truck out last night, so no shade.

Any guesses? Bad ignition switch maybe? No codes, I checked that first.

Thanks

More than likely a bad relay, that thing under the fuse box that clicks. Not sure if that one can be jumped with a wire to get it to start.

Problem solved. A friend from the dealer called me back, yes on Sunday and his day off. Simple fix - and I feel like a fool - turn on the alarm (factory)- disarm -

get in and start car.

Join the club. Same thing happened to me right after I got my aftermarket alarm. Luckily, the blinking alarm light finally clued me in.

2006 Ignition Problem

Nelssen:

Had the same problem last thursday, enroute to campground with 5th wheel attached, stopped in parking lot of grocery store about 10 miles from campground and 30 miles from Bend, OR. When we tried to start the engine to continue on, NOTHING happened when the key was turned to the start position - just dead silence. Checked every fuse I could find visually and with ohm meter - all checked out. Tried the Alarm lock/unlock trick several times - nothing changed, still no start. Called Dodge Dealer in Bend, OR and had truck towed. Dodge dealer called next day and truck was fixed before noon. Good Service.

Service Manager said: There is a TSB out on this problem and it deals with a wire that goes from the relay to the starter that chaffs and shorts out somewhere under the engine. The wire has to be relocated/and protected. Problem solved. Control Module had to be reflashed also. Truck had 13900 miles on Odometer so towing and shop time was covered by warranty. Towing 5th wheel to park was not covered.

Service Manager also said: there is a TSB out concerning a drain on top of the fuel tank that has to be installed to prevent water from collecting on top of tank, which was done while in the shop.

Something to keep in mind if you run into the ignition problem again.

Thanks LEEH. Sorry to hear about your camping trip. My problem has not returned. I did the roll over valve fix after reading about it on this forum, long before Dodge caught on. I would like to have the TSB number for the relay wire if you have it. I am getting used to going into the dealer and asking them to search for TSB's I learned about here on TDR.

06 won't start

LEEH

Where can I find those 06 TSB's your dealer mentioned on that no start wire under the engine and also that tank drain on top to prevent water from collecting there? Does anybody have a link to these two TSB's????

Also, I joined the Good Sam club and purchased their Emergency Road Service that would tow your truck and tow your 5th wheeler if you broke down. I haven't used the service and I hope I never have to.

Byron :)

06 Ignition Problems

Nelssen & Byron:

Sorry I didn't include the TSB numbers, but it was early am and I didn't want to venture from my warm RV out into the 32 degree morning to get the paperwork out of the pickup.

Much warmer now so here are the TSB Numbers:

08-021-06 REROUTE AND INSULATE STARTER WIRE FROM TIPM TO STARTER AND FLASH TIPM

F19 RECALL ROLL OVER VALVE HOSE (I thought this was a TSB instead it is a Recall)

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reminder Lee, I just called my dealer about the hose.

"You have to leave the truck here for the whole day, and only on a weekday, not a weekend!".

I told her forget it, I can't leave the truck all day for a 1/2 hour job that even the lot boy could perform. "I will do it myself". She told me "your not supposed to do that kind of work yourself" and reminded me that I will keep getting notices from Dodge about this until They install the hose.

"so what, I can throw the notices the same place I throw all those surveys dodge keeps sending me!"
