It ran fine all day. I parked it in the garage for about 3hrs, now it cranks but won''t start. I can bump the starter and get 17psi from the fuel gauge but it drops to 5psi and lower when cranking!
I would suggest cycling your key three times to check for codes if you have no code reader. It sounds to me like you MAY have lost your VP. You can crack your injector lines open at the head and have someone crank it over and see if you have fuel spray but be sure you dont have your hands or face too close when you do this because a good fuel spray will cut through your skin. If you dont have any fuel spray I would bet its the VP because even if your lift pump craps out you can still run your truck. I lost my VP last year running a steady 15 psi at the pump inlet just by doing one fast take off from a stoplight. If you do indeed need a VP do some looking around before you buy because you can get a really good deal on one if you find the right supplier. Best of luck! Chris
I checked codes yesterday but I didn't put it in my post. I got 1693. I'm pretty well convinced that it is the VP44. I'll have to call around tomorrow and see what I can find. I don't know of anyone locally other than Cummins Southern Plains or the dealership.
I replaced the injection pump and everything is ok now. It's crazy how the price of these things vary depending on who you call. I got prices anywhere from $1300 to $2300 for stock pumps, and to have them installed is alot worse. Thanks to TDR issue 51 page 96 the job was easy. It took about 3 1/2 hours to switch them out and after bleeding the air from the lines it fired right up.
