I have a 93 d 350 the pump was tweaked before I got it Ihave about 179000 on it just had the trans done looking to install injetor ? and may be a governer spring I'm going to put the money in to I'm looking to get about 300hp I drive it daily so don't want to go crazy thanks :confused:

i cant exaclty speak from personal exprerience JUST yet, but from what ive learned from others here. It get a 14-16cm turbo housing probly for starters, just to make it more peppy/drivable. tighten your throttle linkage, to remove any slop, get more response. i would suggest an ASA intake, and do somthing to your exhaust. if you want noise and performans for little $, take off the muffler and make your pipe as big and short as possible. turn your pump up more, but adjust the diaphram as well, to fully utilize the fuel. might i add, i would strongly recomend installing a tach, boost and EGT gauge before anything! get you good base line readings, before you start juicing. if its an auto get a temp gauge for that aswell. hope that gets you off to a good start

3" exhaust is stock. Get 3. 5" or 4". Increasing air flow or exhaust flow are free power in the sense of theyre actually good for mileage, and good for the motor in general, while increasing power. You want a driveable truck, get a decent intake, or at least a big air filter, and a bigger exhaust first. That makes your other upgrades shine a little more too.

Next I'd see how far the pump is tweaked. If its turned up a little, you may still have more free horse waiting in that thing for you. Last, I'd check out the thread labelled "governor spring... pandoras box?" because we've basically gone over almost all the common upgrades on there over the course of the last month.

What did you get done to your transmission? Low-stall converter? Valve body upgrade? The transmission is the best thing I ever did to my truck. I got the lowest stall converter that Oregon Torque Converters sold. I drilled out the passages so the fluid would flow to the coolers in park and neutral. I did a stage 2 shift kit, and shimmed up 2nd gear accumulator more then the rest. And a mirage of other things that i cant remember. Its just a 727 transmission, so all the tricks work wonders.

After that mod I could overheat my truck going up hills! SO I had to back my pump pressure off, and adjust my top end fuel down from max on the cone plunger. I also have an hx35 turbo, and 3. 5 exhaust no muff.

Go get Gauges!! How do you know if your engine is about to meltdown?!? After that, you can tweak your pump alot more. The gov spring, the "old smoky" pin, fuel pressure, etc etc.

Also, go get a dyno run done so that you have a good baseline.

What was the stall speed on your new converter? I'd like to learn a little more about this stuff you've done to your transmission because the stock transmission slips like hell, and the stall speed ain't much under the stock governor speed.

For the record, I would guess that under half the guys on here are higher than 300 horse with the VE pump. So I guess I'm curious what your definition of "going crazy" with it is...

Anyway, like liftedlimo said, get your gauges in before anything. After that, start in on making sure your pump is cranked to where you want it. Injectors are a good upgrade. If you get some in the medium range, they may increase fuel economy and power. High horse injectors probably won't do anything for your economy but hurt it, but not by too much where it's not worth the trade off with the power they supply (at least in my evaluation).

I think they were about $600. No core charge. Mine are actually bigger injectors, not just reworked tips with bigger holes, so I got to keep my old ones, too. I got them from BD, theyre the biggest that BD offers. I'm lookin into some DDP injectors, or ATS because I'm power hungry again. Those run for about $900-$1000 for the ones I want.

the gauges are going in this weekend the governer spring do I have to go in to the pump to change that?and how hard is it to change Thanks for the help

Go the the FAQs, and read the Performance stages 1,2,3,4... and read it again and again and again. I have and still find a few wise things there I keep forgetting. It is a good list. Then read the FAQ on tuning the VE pump.

I was targeting 300 or a tad more and have decided that at 300 quite a few things start to break that I am not ready to replace. At my moderate power levels, I am quite happy with the performance. 600+ ft pounds of torque just gets things moving in a hurry. :D

Have fun and keep an eye on those guages!!

Ken

Your have to basically split the top half off the pump to get at the governor spring. Just keep a good head on your shoulders, take your time, and DON'T get anything into the pump internals.
