I need some help from the TDR members in deciding what to do. Cummins has my truck and has told me there has been a major problem in the engine requiring a new/rebuilt motor. Here is where I need help. The truck has 260,000 on it. It is an automatic. My concern is that do I spend $5000 plus in putting in a new motor with all the other components having that much mileage or just bite the bullet and look for something newer? I don't know how long automatics last and I'll bet their expensive. Even with the rebuilt engine, I will still have the VP44 with the high mileage and every thing else.

Please help me decide. I use the truck daily in my business so Budget rental is loving me every day.

Thanks for any input.

Considering all the other things you may have to do with suspension and drivetrain, I'd probably go with a newer one.

Go with a new one for buisness its a great tax write off $$$$ Keep the 98 and see if ya can find a used cummins and have a local shop do the engine swap. It may be a good back up for the new one or a fun toy to bomb.

Rcaldwel, I answered this on the regular forum but I have an engine that runs great and was with an automatic trans. Where are you located? Email me.
