I have a young friend of the family who is doing a high school project on 3rd Gen power adders. (his family also owns the local Dodge dealership and our small town school is open to many ideas) He has asked me for some help. The project is to specifically compare Smarty, Bully Dog, and Edge A2. Any specs would be appreciated other than what is advertised. How the different programmers work and how each one goes about making the 5. 9 gain power (pressure, timing, fuel etc. )

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Paul

It is "his" project Bob4x4. Project is due on Wed. I directed him to this site to look and read. I also told him I would post some questions so he could read the response of other enthusiasts. Just trying to show a kid how great this community is.

You can look through your back issues of the TDR mag it's all there. It just seems way to many young-uns getting spoon fed and end up regretting it later in life.

Old and worked for it all :-laf

Bob

What does old and worked for it all have to do with anything about this post? All he did was ask how each worked and what they did to gain power. Some people on this site need to learn that if they dont have anything helpful to say why say anything at all? As far as I know the Smarty adds power by timing and duration same with the edge... . I am not really sure about the bully dog however

My girlfriend bought me a book by Joe Pettitt called The High Performance Diesel Builder's Guide. Even though it seems to push Banks products, there is a lot of good information in it. It doesnt go into comparisons between products, but it just explains the theories and operation behind everything from tuners, engine hard parts, exhaust, nitrous/h2o, turbos, etc. I think he may be better off doing some sort of report on just basic tuning theories so that his class understands why your wanting increased pressures/timing/duration etc. , and then maybe throw in examples of some tuners that do timing/duration and some that do timing/pressure, etc.

Im pretty sure you can get this book in any large book store, she got this one for me at Hastings. Good luck with this project, I think its great to see the kids showing interest in this.

I'm almost 4 yrs older than you, and I totally agree with what Bob said.

So, you want an open book test, as apposed to one you have to study for? Best way is to learn it on your own. Info isn't that hard to get. Just need to know where to look. They all have phones, so if the tech info isn't their sites, then call or e-mail.

Give him a list of companies that make said products and let him have at it, to get what is needed. If it wasn't a SCHOOL PROJECT, I'd give more info.

TST

BD Power

Banks

Edge

Van Aken (sp?)

Superchips

Have fun.

First of all age doesnt even matter in this topic he didnt say anything about getting a free truck or any of that so working really has nothing to do with it either. Second I hope that I would be able to buy my son or daughter whatever vehicle they wanted and also hope that people that are not able to do so or have a parent do the same for them does not act the way some of you on here have acted towards people that are more fortunate. Also have you ever taken a real open book test? Those ones are generally harder than the ones you have to study for since all of the answers are right there in front of you. Also he was asking for information not a report. That is part of the paper writing experience, ask questions do research... . exactly what this guy was doing.

I also agree with what he just posted. You guys are telling him to do the research on his own, well, isnt that what this site is all about? So all the questions half of you answer to some people having problems with their vehicles, why dont you just tell them to call the engineer, or call the company? We are all here to help each other out. And if a kid is doing a project on something relating to diesels, I'll try and be as helpful as I can. The kid came here asking for help, instead of calling each manufacturer, waiting for who knows how long on hold, and maybe getting answers to some questions he has. This is a shortcut to get all the information in one place. People in the diesel world aggrivate me, everything seems to be a big secret. Share whatever information you may have, help the kid, dont shoot him down.

I won't let this thread get into a pi$$ing match, so I won't say anything other than say, Yes, I have taken plenty of open book tests. Weren't that bad. Did them cold turkey and had plenty of pop quizzes/tests, too. And, from one of your other comments, I knew pretty close how old you were before I looked at your profile.

True, but this is for school, and we CAN help to much. All of the info is here on this site already. The fueling box threads are many, even if you don't want to talk to suppliers/vendors. A simple search here, and other diesel sites will find what is needed relatively easily. Just like an open book test, all of the needed info is already right here on the site, just need to find what you need for the answer. We aren't the ones looking for the A+. I'm just pointing towards where to find the info. That is all.

This is different, no grades. We shouldn't be a cheat sheet. Grades are to be earned. I am helping by pointing in the right direction, not by giving the answer sheet directly. That is what my parents did with me and my kin, and I have very little trouble finding my own info. That is why I rarely start threads looking for it. Can usually find it faster than someone will reply to a new thread anyhow.

Not shooting anyone down.
