i 'm having a eletrical probelm , the other day i was coming home from work and crossed some pretty rough R/R tracks and when i did the truck cut off just like i'd turned the switch off , i pulled it home , well any way when it cut off i seen a small cloud of smoke coming up from either the steering coloum or under the dash, which leads me to believe a wire burnt in to, as it is right now when i turn on the switch nothing comes on , no radio , no gauges ,nothing , just like not turning the switch on at all. so i need a wiring diagram of this piece, so maybe i can trace down the probelm , unless some one else has had a simliar probelm?

thanks David

Pull the covers on the cloumin and check for wires that got chaffed. It is a problem on these year models.

Then look at your fuse links under the hood. It most likely took one out.

I think they are located over by the grid heater relays. I'll have to look tomorrow to make sure. I haven't had any reason to look for them on my truck. YET

Directly behind the grid heater relays you should find a 6 gauge black wire that branches out to the following fusible links. 3 each orange 20 gauge, 1 gray 18 gauge, 1 dark green 10 gauge & a red 12 gauge normal wire. These fusible links have a special rubber insulation that will stretch when the link melts in two, sometimes the insulation will be visibly burnt.

drturf0,

Fusible links on my '89 gave up the ghost 'bout 3 years ago. Mine are directly beneath the hood hinge, driver side. I kinda have them half cobbled back together and so when I hit a big bump, rr track, or launch too fast the wires come apart and she dies. Get out. Grunt to get the heavy hood open. Keep touchin' wires together 'til I hear the radio blarin' cause I left the ignition on. Close hood. Climb behind wheel. Start the truck. Shut the door. Put the selector in "d". Shut the door again cause it didn't latch the first time. Apply right foot to pedal and go on my way again.

I love this old truck!

Check the two wires on the fuel solenoid first...

Look at the injection pump... just above the area were all the injection lines attach is a solenoid with two wires. They can loosen or even come off. .

That would be my first plan of attack.
