I am in the market for some gauges and have pretty much settled in on the Z-series by Autometer, but I'm alittle confused about the different models on the Autometer website. There are two different EGT gauges offered. Both are 0-1600F, but one comes with the probe and is a 'street series' and the other says it is a 'pro or comp series' and the probe is sold separately and uses a K-type thermocouple. Can anyone tell me the difference or better yet remember the part number from the gauge that you bought. (I have both #'s recorded from the website. )

Also what are the pros/cons to pre/post turbo prob site?

Autometer probe #5249 is a street series probe. The pro or competition series is for
top fuel engines and are not needed for our Dodge. I got the Autometer #4344 which is
the Pryometer and #5249 probe (sold together)
from Geno's Garage for 120. 00. Works well and very reasonable in price.

Search the archives for "pre or post" turbo
probe install.

The #5244 is a heavier duty probe. Was told by Autometer twice to use this probe (emailed them twice). So I run that probe based on their advice. If ya compare the two the 5244 looks much beefier.

The "competition series" probe is faster reacting, but does so by having a thinner (or absent) protective metal cover over the probe tip itself. The "street series" probe provides more than enough reaction time for me, and costs quite a bit less.

I was surprised "just how fast" the street series probe reacts, despite it being the "slower" of the two versions.

You can use either probe in a Cummins. But its true, the street series all though advertised as being "Slower" responding, is really not slow at all. There is a difference in response, but the difference is small enough that depending on your application you could use it and save smoe extra $$. However, if your truck is highly BOMBED, it is probably worth the extra money as insurance with an engine that can produce highe EGT's very quickly.

I have the street probe and it is very fast. The EGT gauge will move right away after I get off the gas. To me this is an non issue.

My 2 cents. .

Statebull,
I have the Z Series #2654. Got it through Summit Racing for $100. 99 plus shipping.
I had to wait however, it was on back order.
So I suggest you make sure the dealer has it in stock. I like it and it reacts fast enough for my purposes (see Sig. ). It included the probe. Good luck.
