The witch that lives next door has three of the loudest dogs in the world. So this weekend she flies off on her broom to troll for desperate souls and leaves her dogs outback all weekend. They barked there heads off. Worthless police don't care (but the Fraternal order of police call me over and over begging me to part with my $$$) sorry getting off on another tangent. Anyway I am really trying to be a good citizen and not drive my CTD through her backyard and rid the world of noise... . but at 3am it seems like a good idea;) . I tried talkin to her when she came home but she dosen't see the problem... . to wrapped up with the frog on the Harley she was with... . ahh another story. Anyone have any ideas short of missle attacks. She has a 6' privacy fence so not sure ultrasonic stuffwill work. I know I sound like an angry idiot..... it's just the lack of sleep talking:eek:

Please help:{ :{ :{ :{

I got the same problem you do. To my left is this dumb lady that has two dogs keep in at most a 15 X 5 foot pen with no grass and stinks up the back corner of my yard. Then to the right is this lady with a boxer that only barks when the dogs on the left left which is like all the time. I havent been able to sleep late for the past year becuse at about 8:30 or so they start barking and wont shut up. My friend that used to live here had a little stick and would hit the dog everytime it started barking and after a couple of beats every time he went in the back yard the dog with shut up but Im to nice of a guy to haul off and hit a dog thats not ataking me. The way Im going to handle it is just move acually Im graduating and have no use in this town anymore so it works out well. But for you your kind of stuck with it and with the 6 foot fince you cant acually reach over and hit them with a stick. If you really want to take care of it throw a hotdog over thats got some kind of poison on there and make it look like it died from natural causes (but you didnt hear that from me).

I used to have a neighbor that had a rabbit dog that barked all night. I complained to him. He didn't do anything. So everytime the dog woke me up in the middle of the night. I started to call him. After a week or so he bought a recorder for his phone thinking it would stop his getting woke up at night. All I did then was to walk down to his house when his dog woke me up and beat on his front door. I mean beat on the door also.

After a few nights of that. He moved the dog into his garage.

You might think about calling the SPCA. Two days without water and food for an animal might get someones attention. Also keep calling the police dept. Call the district attorney also to check on pet laws in your area.

We live out in the country. The coyotes get the dogs howling. Hard to blame the dogs. My solution--ear plugs. The cheap foam ones that you roll tight and slip into ears. Works great too if your spouse snores. Remember to turn up your alarm clock.

Other then that, an extremely bright light trained on your neighbors bedroom window. Turn it on when the dog barks. -

A friend of mine had the same problem. He went to the local boat supply store and bought one of those hand held fog horns. Those suckers are LOUD! It would scare the heck out of the dog (and the neighbor too) kept it quiet for a while. not sure it would work on all dogs

Best of luck,

John

Edit: Do you have a paintball gun? :D :D

C,mon guys... don't kill dogs because they bark... that would be like killing your wife because she talks. I suggest doing something to annoy the neighbor so she does something about it. Of course, if she is not there, that doesn't work, but whoever suggested calling SPCA had a good idea. If she left them without adequate food/water, then the police will show up.

I agree that a call to the SPCA is your best option. They will keep making visits to your nieghbors house until they feel there is nothing wrong. Many times they will investigate over a 2 month period.

Next time she splits for a weekend make the call after you dump the dogs water bowl. They SPCA will be all over your wonderful neighbor.

I had a similar problem, but it was with my dog. I can't stand neighbor dogs barking and wouldn't stand for my own doing the same. When raising our mutt puppy (mostly german shepard/chow mix among many other things) she was a barker. Anyhow, I read somewhere that throwing a glass of water (minus the glass) in there face gets their attention. Just like with training any animal, you have to catch them in the act. But it sounds like the neighbors dogs would likely bark at you if you stuck yer head over the fence. Water them down a bit and tell'em to keep quiet. It may just work after a few tries. If they persist or if it only aggravates them, upgrade to the hose. Now all I do is look out the window at my dog and she knows to shut up. Every now and then I've had to show her a cup of water and she knows exactly what it means. It is completely humane and works like any negative reinforcement method.

LOL

My wife trained our dog to keep quiet by squirting water at him... .

Just a quick shot... . mostly used a squirt bottle (hose a couple of times) and it didn't take long... he's not a yapper though.

I "trained" a neighbors dog when I was young using a BB gun at low power. Got so just a "tap" on the window would shut it up.

that would be like killing your wife because she talks.

So give the dogs a cell phone and unlimited minutes?:-laf

I hear ya bud.

A few nights ago I was awaken at 03:00 by barking dogs, went to the front gate and shot one with my pellet gun. Last night at 10:00 the barking started again. Out the front door I went, but the noise was out back. The dogs were after my horse. I shot one with the pellet gun.

Today I will call the Sherriff and see if I can shoot the dogs with a shotgun. 12ga/ 7 1/2 shot. The roaming dogs are a mess. The owners should be held responsible.

Send me the permit!

If the sheriff gets you a dog shootin permit send it up to me when your done. Ya know that lady said to me "that's the trouble with dogs they bark". Where was she raised. I have had dogs all my life and with a little TLC you train them to behave appropriately. People that let there "pets" run free or annoy others should be held responsible. It is sad that the laws in this country make it very difficult for good people to live decently

Based upon personal experience, I would try the following things in this order:

1. Talk to the owner - ask them to put on a bark training collar, they are like $20 or so. They worked great on my dog. Depending on your relationship, it might be worth it to offer to pay for 1/2... .

2. If no response, then I would go the SPCA/police route. If there's nothing you can do there, then

3. Aggravate the neighbor. The light idea, the banging on the door idea, phone calls etc sound great. If that doesn't work then

4. You'll probably have to try training the dogs yourself. The air horn works, water works but it ticks off the whole neighborhood. Then you get in trouble.

If you are the type of person to kill the dog, then you have to almost do that first. Afterwards you are the #1 suspect and there's a good chance you'll get in trouble there too. Is it possible for the dogs to accidentally "get out" while they are gone? If they run away then they aren't barking... .....

No killing here

First let me say unless the dog attacked my son there is NO way I could kill it much less cause it permanent pain. I firmly believe the problem lies with the owner not the dog. With that being said I think it will be easier to train the dogs than the owner. I am inclined to purchase some ultrasonic devices that are supposed to solve the problem. I am going to approach the neigbhor and offer to buy her dogs the bark collars and replace the batteries whenever needed. Small price to pay for piece and quiet. If that does not work I will throw the works at her. Lawyers, pole mounted ultrasonic devices, airhorns, strobe lights, water hose and any other non-violent means needed. After that I figure the dogs will either be "cured" or I will be in all out warfare with the neighbor. Ultimately I am certain I have more $ than her and if I keep her in court she may have to give up or move. She has$$$$$ issues. Thanks for the suggestions, it helps to hear I am not alone.

BTW, Since my talk with the neighbor things have been much quieter even though she blew me off in person I think she took our discussion to heart... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... I'll keep you all posted.

I don't think any pet should be killed unless it is a threat. (viscious) Thanks

See YA:)

I called the local sherriff. Was told to contact animal control. Animal control says you can protect your livestock(dogs have killed a goat and a calf). I ask for clarification. She says I can`t tell you to shoot them. I ask, "IF" I shoot them while they are after my horse then what? She says to call the sherriff and notify them that I discharged a firearm in the county. It is OK to protect your livestock. The 12ga comes out tonight.

another idea - put a sprinkler up on a pole that "waters" the neighbors dogs. That way when they start barking you turn on the water and let it run for a few hours.

Great idea

I could use a solenoid valve and use a cheapo glassbreak detector to have it activate when they bark... ... ... ... ... Wasn't there a movie that had the neighbors batteling and doing crazy things to one another?

you know it would be really cool if you could somehow use the clapper in your sprinkler design. When you hear barking clap twice to turn it on, clap two more times when you think they've had enough. :D :D :D :D :D :D
