I have just bought this truck used 900miles ago from a dealer.

Its a 03 SO 48RE(code in glove is DH8) 2wd 60K miles, not driven hard at all.

Problem is that the bubble on the bellhousing where the bendix gear on the starter goes into to engage the flex plate is busted outward, not just cracked. I have no idea how this happened.

My only guess is that maybe the flexplate it broken and it come around to the right spot and when the bendix hit that egg shaped spot it pushed the bendix gear into the bell housing.

can someone please help me figure this out. Dodge says that the warranty is not transferable on the powertrain but is on the engine.

Thanks Justin

Oh this isnt how I imagined my first post either

:--) What? There is supposed to be a "bubble" where the bendix drive goes into the bellhousing. Are you having problems with your starter, or did you just look at it and think it's wrong?

Can you take a picture?

On edit:

Okay, I re-read your post and I think I understand better now. There is an actual hole where that bubble is supposed to be?

Your power train warranty is covered no matter who owns the truck... . I bought a used 03 and used the power train warranty . . The dealer is lying to you. .

Welcome to TDR.

Your dealer is full of it...

Before I bought my '03 with 10k miles on it, I made sure w/ DC that the warranty was transferable. If you call DC and report your serial number and new owner information, you'll get updates on recalls and the like as well.

Ill try and get a photo tommorow--I took one tonight but I couldnt download it cause file was too large.

I WILL get one up tommorow cause I need you guys opinions. :D

On Edit: Dealer says that the engine warranty is transferable but the powertrain is out of warranty. My Q? is what is the standard warranty on the transmission and engine. Not extended.

had a friend lose a tooth on his starter drive gear and it came threw the case on his ford, could be the same thing with yours.

That"s is a easy fix,Fine what was the cause, remove trans and have it welded. I don"t think this will be covered under the 7/70 anyways it"s not a lubricated part.

I like the weld it idea, that was one of my first thoughts. Another thought was to cut out the broke section and just leave it alone till I did pull the transmission.

OK--What can I do to the transmission to HELP it out while I have it back. Such as input shafts and what not.

I used to build CAT trannies, so not new to tearing them down but this is automotive and totally different-although its still all nuts and bolts.

Any input on what to do to make my transmission ready for a TST  would greatly be appreciated.

Called Diamler today and they did INDEAD tranfer ALL of the warranty. But like was said the case might not be warranty work-dunnno. The DEALER was lying to me. :--)

If you stay under the 450 hp and 850 ft TQ Max,TC/VB with a commander would get you a Nice upgrade providing that the transmission is fresh and strong.
