Do ford trucks have different "generations" like our Dodges?

Is this part of the conspiracy against us dieselheads?

Okay,

At the place that put my gauges and exhaust on, there is a 1998 12 valve with a rebuilt motor and a rebuilt pump. It has 190,000 miles on it and the bed is dented on one side. It's a 2500 automatic regular cab longbed. The guy wants $7800 firm. He owns the shop and says the motor has only 500 miles on it. The dent on the side of it is pretty big but looks like it can be pulled.

He also said that the engine is ''balanced''. I dont know what that means.

Is it worth $7800?

Part of the reason he said the motor was so strong was because he said the 12 valve engine was built on a 24 valve block and balanced.

Help here!

Unless I or someone I trusted A LOT knew the guy well, I'd stay away.

Just my $. 02... ...

Ditto on what BigPapa said, better to trust an engine Cummins put together at the factory versus one built by someone you don't know. Keep an eye out, another truck at the right price will come along.
