I got the motor torn apart and all I have left is swithch the case out. All the tapets are held up but the cam will only come out 2" or so then it stops. It also wont turn 360* it will go about 180 one way and 180 the other then it stops smoothly not like it is hitting metal.

Is there anything else that connects to the cam? How do I get it out?

nope!! I havent got my manual yet and I'm just going off the web site Joe G. had. I'll do a search on how to take it out.

Is that all there will be?

Thanks

Justin

Two fittings, an electricl plug, and two screws are all that is involved. Becareful when you pull it off the block so you don't drop the little push rod in the pan.

So I got it all back together after I messed up and bent two push rods putting the rocker arm assembly back on (oh well). I fired it up today and it idles fine but when I went to drive it it cuts out and blows white smoke really bad.

My guess is pump timing. I was reading that sometimes they move when you take the gear off. It was also drippin a little diesel but i cant find from where. Nothing is wet. I checked the lift pump lines and filter drain. It may have been left over and actually been oil off everything that is covered.

How hard is the pump timing to set? Again I havent got my manual in the mail yet and I need my truck back. I marked all the gears when I took it apart but it may be off a little.

A local shop said it would be $85 to do timing on it and at this point I think it is best. Unless it is really easy to check/do on my own.

Thanks

Justin

yea 85 is a deal for timing. . Get it set to 16-16. 5 for better egts while yer at it. .

good luck

I was told 15. 5 - 16 max if you have the stock head gasket & components. I set my timing for the first time the other night to 15. 25 and it wasn't too difficult. I found mine at 13. 3 degrees.

Got it done. Set to 15 i believe. They knew what they were doing so I just let them do it. Seems to run about the same.

Only problem now is the damn noise from the lift pump. I've heard of you guys isolating the the two parts. I dont know I'll look at it later. At this point it's just nice to have a car back.

Thanks for the help.
