Was draining the water out of my FASS water seperator today and figured I'd take it off and clean it per DPP instructions. Only problem is: I could not get the Water Seperator come off. I put all of my 220lbs into trying to turn it and it would not budge. Tried a strap type wrench and a metal band type wrench and all I was able to do was dent up the case pretty good ( Yes I was turning it the correct way,LOL). I was bending the mount so much I was afraid that I was gonna break it!

WOuld there be any problem with using PB Blaster or similar products up at the top to try to break the seal? It was put on with oil on the o-ring as per instructions. I already ordered a new one and should be here in a couple of days, but would rather not have to use it if I can get the one off with out any damage, unforutnatley my next step is a chain type strap wrench with a longer handle, which WILL damage the case pretty good, or the old screw driver through the case trick!

ANy ideas or has anyone else had this problem? ANy suggestions on what to do to avoid this in the future? Filter was not overly tightened when it was installed, but this was the first time it was gonna come off in 8k miles.

Thanks in advance,

J-

if it is warm let it cool then try it, if its cold then try to do it when its warm. you can use penetrating oil if you want, put your strap wrench on the upper most part and give it your best-----do not put heat on it. hope this helps :D

Thanks DP.

Yeah it was cold, only had to run truck for 30 second to back out of garage. Got my strap wrench within 3/4 in of top of the filter, but couldnt get any higher due to interference from the mounting bolts and really couldnt get much torque on the wrench as it was pretty ackward under there. I will try when the system is warm and also try some penetrating oil. If all else fails it will not stay on with my chain wrench (TIGHT grip and longer handle) and I will just use the new one thats coming.

ANyone else??

Thanks

If all else fails, punch a large screwdriver through the case of the filter... you will obviously need a filter, but it will add a bunch of leverage.
