I tried almost everything, allot of stuff will mask it for a short while like Mothers products or back to black but, once it wears off the wax is back. I even tried WD-40, diesel fuel, alcohol, spit! Does anyone have any other reasonable ideas, Thanks.

Devildog,

If you are talking about the radio antenna base I don't think anything works. I've tried everything I've seen recommended on this forum since it's been in existance. The base of my antenna is still white. Everytime I think I've removed the wax it comes back in a few days. That's with several brands of wax. I'm going to get a new base and take it off everytime I wax from now on.

Totalshine will work !! You can find it at wallmart for about 7 bucks . Use it on all the black plastic/rubber on your truck you will not find a better product or one that is eaiser to use, works on

paint and chrome so you don't have to be so carefull about applying it. Invest 7 bucks let me know what you think. And no

I don't own the company.

Have you tried the Meguiar's Commercial Duty Vinyl and Rubber solvent?

I dunno where to get it, I got it from someone who worked for them, it came in a big gallon jug.

Joe G......

Have you every tried a coat of shoe polish on the base? I haven't, but I might try it next time.

Let me know if it works.

3M Adhesive Remover

Try that, put it on a clean cotton cloth, NOT a terry towel, and rub. Be careful not to rub too hard, and have soap and water on hand to rinse/neutralize it. This was the only product I've found that will remove car wax from black plastic trim. I also use 3M's blue masking tape to mask off door handles, etc. when I wax my truck. The adhesive remover also works wonders for getting bugs/road tar off the paint, but strips the wax right along with it. (no problem, it needs a wash & wax by then, anyway)

Some automotive body shops have wax remover in 1 gallon cans, you might have to try a few shops before you find one willing to help. I think both 3M and DuPont make such a wax remover, I can't remember for sure. The danger is some compounds can act as a solvent on the plastic itself. If in doubt, find some scrap car plastic at a salvage yard, and test it.

Thanks Tom,

I'll try the adhesive remover. I have no problem with wax on anyother thing on the truck, just the antenna base. My smart a$$ son-in-law is always coming up with another sure thing. Nothing has worked on the antenna base yet.

Plastic Trim

When I bought my Roll and Lock Bed cover they sent a sample bottle of 303 aerospace protectant to use on it works wonders for the plastic trim kind of pricy and hard to find I got more of it at West Marine.

They have a web site www.303products.com might want to check it out.

Wax mask

When I was at the TDR Nationals in Columbus Ind. in August 99 there was a rep there from Maguires. He recomended coating all plastic and rubber moldings with thier tire protectant before waxing. this will keep the wax from sticking to the moldings. My truck was new at the time and I hadn't waxed it yet for the first time. So when I did I tried it. Works great! No wax stains to date. :D

"Simple Green" completely removed the wax (dealer installed) from the plastic trim on my 2001. 5. Then I used a plastic preservative. Worked great for me.

Good Luck!

You're welcome, Joe ! :D Note: the wax remover I mentioned that body shops have, is NOT the same stuff as the ADHESIVE remover. I re-read my post, it seems a little unclear, thought I'd better make sure.

Simple Green is wonderful, but it didn't work on my plastic.

Also, all you guys putting Armor-All and such stuff on your plastic, be aware I've had the stuff ruin the dash on a 67 Camaro, a 79 Ford F150, and an 82 Datsun 810. I haven't used the stuff since. I was told that the silicone reacts with the plastic, makes it more susceptible to freezing in the winter, leading to cracks. I only put it on tires, but lately, I've been using that tire gloss from Meguiar's, it lasts a long time. Forgive me for correcting the spelling, no offense intended, but it's spelled Meguiar's and not Maguire's.

DevilDog......

Please try a pencil eraser. It's really harsh on the eraser, but will completely remove that wax that gets on those door/tailgate handles and antenna base.

Good luck!!

I take and tape off all my plastic trim before I wax my truck only takes about 30 minutes but probley saves 2 hours of scrubing.

I used Fast Orange one time and it worked great.

PEANUT BUTTER

It works. Read about this over on www.vwvortex.com under detailing section. The rubber piece on my tailgate and door handles had white on them. Rubbed peanut butter on,worked it in with toothbrush, wiped it off and the whites gone. Be sure and use the creamy not crunchy!!:D

Peannut Butter?

I remember my mom using it to get gum out of my sister's hair one time. Man was my *** sore after that one:eek:

The wax was all over the plastic and antenna base. I borrowed an eraser from the kids, it worked great and removed the wax fast, thats a first, not having to chase down products or materials. Thanks guys for the help, Chas.
