2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Help! Changing Steering Stabilizer

Help,

I am changing out the steering stabilizer and can't get it loose. I don't know if it is press fitted or screwed in please help.

With my 2001 I had to use a big hammer, pickle fork, and a small propane torch. It was the only thing that worked for me. I had tried off and on for a couple of weekends before breaking out the torch. Others have had great success with a pitman arm puller. I still don't know what one of those are, but if it makes it easier it must be a miracle tool!!! I thought I was going to bend something with all the pounding I did !!!

A pitman arm puller worked great for me.

Same for me on the pitman arm puller. Tried several methods and ended up at Pep Boys. They "rent" tools. The only cost is a deposit. The deposit is totally refunded upon return of the tool. I have also "rented" a torque wrench. Usual "rental" time is 10 days of free tool usage.

ps. Be careful when removing the stabilizer. When it finally lets loose, it happens pretty fast. Had a not on my head for a few days to prove it.

I have removed 2 so far and both times I used a 12" pipe wrench on the spacer between the stabilizer and the bar. Just get a bite on it and turn. Both time it popped right out.

I did use an 18" this past weekend because I didn't have a 12". It required some triming of the rubber bushing to get it on the shaft.
