Help choosing remote start

Well, it's getting to be that time of year... . winter. I am thinking about getting a remote start installed, and would like some input from others. I have the high idle funtion turned on and would like to get a two way system that would idle my truck up as well if possible. I've heard rumors of a unit that reads the current RPM? That would be cool. Anyways, any help and ideas would be great.

What transmission do you have? It's not on your signature. If it's a 6 speed, forget it.

Also, if you have the chipped key security system, I don't think you can do it.

I'm very happy with my Ultrastarter. It also has a turbo cool down mode and doesn't require an extra key transmitter. It works with the factory locking system. It also has an idle mode where you can exit the truck with the keys and leave it running.



They also have a model that works with the 6-speed.



The MOPAR remote starter I had had a problem starting the truck below 20 degrees F. The dealership bought it back and I went to the Ultrastart based on recommendations here.

Ultrastart TL1355XR. I recommend the extended range, it works out to about a half mile. I forgot to lock the truck once and was able to lock it from inside a Home Depot a long way away.

Yes

They will also work with they grey keys (Sentry system)

There are many brands out there and most will work with the CTD. You just need to decide how much you want to spend and what functions/range you want. I have seen prices from about $350 installed to over $1000 installed.

The last time I looked, none of the manufacturers could "read" the light

(as they did in my 2001 truck) due to the impedence being so low on the wire in the 2004. 5.



Are the new units able to tell when the light goes out and crank accordingly?

The guy at the shop I was talking to before said we could just set a "timer" that would wait for a specified time before cranking. I did NOT want that... I want to read the light so in summer, it starts quicker and in winter, it waits as long as it needs to (but no longer)...



Anyone know of a remote start that does this?

I will buy on in a HEARTBEAT if there is one that does!!!

A/T in my sig = auto transmission..... Sorry, should change that to 48RE I guess huh? No security key, just keyless entry, no alarm etc... I've heard some good comments about ultrastarters, will have to look into that. Can you adjust your idle with that unit?





I just looked at ultrastarters web site, and I'm not too impressed, VERY generic descriptions, and won't even talk to you unless your an "authorized dealer" Couldn't even find a good list of features, other than range, looks like all of them are the same?

They get the remote starters all set up wiring wise for your specific vehicle. They also send instructions for your specific vehicle on where all the wires get connected/spliced.

Viper 791XV 2-Way Security and Remote Start System

I have the Viper 791XV 2-Way Security and Remote Start System and love it. It has the timer on it that is triggered by the unit for the wait to start. It is easy enough to change the setting on the amount of delay but i just leave mine set on 40 seconds and it is long enough all the time. i really do not care if it starts 30 seconds quicker in the summer. it has the cool down function for the turbo in it as well. I have had vipers in all 4 of my CTD's and this is the first one (3rd Gen) that has required a timer and that is because of the engine electronics. all the others were tripped on the light. DEI is a major manufacturer of remote starters and i am sure if it could run directly off the light it would be that way from them but then again... who knows...
