Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) help! Clutch wont fully disengage!

the only way I can get into gear is to shut the motor off... It just started doing this last night, and I need help!!! I need to haul hay today, and need some feedback!!!

if the clucth peddle feel normal it is the pilot bearing holding on to the input shaft most likely. If the peedle is smushy it is a problem with the slave or master cylinder.

i had same problem... ... twisted the input shaft and it was not allowing the clutch disk to slide on the splines... ... . get ready to pay if it is that... ... . new input shaft, new throwout bearing,new pilot bearing, turn flywheel, labor, i was able to get it all done for around $890



let us know what it ends up being

I think it is the throwout bearing... . Hopefully nothing major, just that, but it is still a good day's work to get the transmission dropped... I did notice when you mash the pedal all the way down, it makes a funky noise, when in gear. . let off a little bit, all is quiet. let off a little more, and it goes to engage the gear... this is the only reason I wish I still had the NV4500... this 5600 is HUGE!!!! anyways, I will keep y'all updated!

SMorneau replaced the 5spd in his 96 with a 6 spd. He had exactly the same trouble you describe. He talked to the shop that installed his trany and they thought a clutch spring was hanging up. It lasted about a week or so. It went away after the 300 mile drive up to the shop that installed the trany & SBC clutch.

You may want to PM SMorneau and get his impression.
