Well, I started to install ARP head studs tonight and the first head bolt that came out has coolant all over it. Is this normal? I don't see any reference to the head bolts going into the water jacket and I expected the bolt to be dry. The engine has ran good and no sign of coolant in the oil or anywhere else. Right now I have stopped work untill I find out if it needs a head gasket too. If it needs a gasket what is the best? The new Cometic, or maybe the Cummins marine? I don't plan to O ring the head, just a good gasket. Thanks again, I've learned quite a bit hanging around here.

they are all blind holes. I did notice when I o-ringed my head the stock head gasket had signs of coolant seaping over towards a couple of the studs.

Thanks for the response. I been in the process of pullin' the head off this afternoon. Looks like Cometic is not a good choice so I been thinking about the marine 12V gasket and doing the mods myself if I can't find one ready to install from somewhere.
