Help!!!! cruise control went haywire

This morning on the way to work i engaged my cruise control. . and it would stay on for about a minute and then shut off... it did this the entire trip... any ideas?

Jason, sounds like your clock spring took a dump, there is a recall to have it replaced at your dealer, when your cruze is'nt working did your air bag light come on , if so than yep clock spring,

I just had mine replaced a month ago , exact same deal... ... ... ... ... ... Kevin

If it's your clock spring, I would think your cruise wouldn't work at all. Also, your airbag light should come on, and I would think your turn signals wouldn't work either. I'm betting on your brake switch. It's fairly cheap, you can replace it yourself, and there's been several problems with them. I'd start with that, and if that doesn't fix it...

ok, if it is the brake switch where do i find that and how would i know if that was it or not?

Could be way off..........

But I seem to remember something about a vaccumm line under the battery holder on the drivers side. Do a search and you'll find more info. Hopefully someone that knows for sure will chime in here.

The brake switch is down on the brake pedal. It's the switch that's responsible for your brake lights also. I'm sure there's a way to electrically measure and see if that's the problem, I just wouldn't know how. I was thinking more along the lines of just replacing it and see if that helped. I know the switch is not very expensive. Maybe someone else can contribute on how to electrically check it. As for the vacuum leak, that's quite possible also, since it keeps going off. But I'm not much help on that one either.

Brake light switch

Could be brake light switch adjustment. Peddle moving a little as you travel could engage brake lights, especially on rough road. Quick check, have some one watch brake lights, and if they come on with almost no foot pressue, this could be problem. Also get some on to follow and see if the lights are intermitantly coming on.

It could be the cruise control servo too. The newer trucks do not use vaccuum to run the cruise control, it is all electronic. You could have a wiring problem (intermittant short or open) that is causing your problems. I have had a CC servo replaced on my truck. It would shut off for no reason, would not set at all, or when you went to set the speed it would floor it and hold it to the carpet until you shut the CC off. The times it floored it were pretty exciting! Take it in, let the dealer fix it. Cruise control problems are so common it should be second nature to them. I normally would not recommend the dealer, but this is one to take in.

Find your brake light switch and unplug the connector, if its out of adjustment it will trigger the brake lights and shut off the cruise. By unplugging it that will eliminate that possibility. I dont know what else will be affected by doing that. With these computer controlled trucks who knows what will be affected also remember the brake lights wont work while you are testing it this way and will get warning lights on dash so ignore those and go test then plug it back in to make your puter happy.
