If you take your truck into Cummins to have warranty work, it involves the dealer cutting a purchase order to Cummins (or any other shop for that matter such as a Bosch service center, front end allignment shop, or whatever you are having done). For them to do that means that they really don't have to capability to assess or perform on a repair action. Many dealers are willing to do this but as tight as DC has become recently, I'm sure that restrictions have been placed on dealers as to what they can send out. Several years ago, I needed some pump work done on a 12 V. The dealership was not a Bosch authorized dealer so I took it to a Bosch shop had the work done and the dealership paid. Don't expect this type of service to be the norm. My dealer knew I had a problem and as a true 5 Star, was willing to do whatever it took to satisfy me. That's why I bought my second Ram from him as well as a Grand Cherokee. DC needs to realize, quality and SERVICE are what keep people coming back. Sorry for the long reply. Hope it helps clarify.

my girlfriend's experience with GM warranty has been different.

for her y2k blazer (i tried to convince her otherwise!) she takes it to her trusted independant shop and they charge the warranty company directly.

can this be done with DC?

americana , what is your extended plan and what did you take it in for ? your extended plan , is it just powertrain or something like max care that covers everything except brake pads ? whats your deductible ? i just called my dealer here in mass , if its for problems not covered under your extended warranty , then expect a charge for diagnostic , if it is a warranty repair , they are doing dsomething that is illegal under the terms of the plan and is ... if you can believe i heard this from a dealer service writer ... frowned upon by DC .

oh heres a dumb question , is this a DC extended warranty or outside co ? i had an outside company type warranty on a VW i owned years ago and the VW dealer charged me 2 hrs for diagnostic for a warranty covered repair , wouldn't do anything unless i agreed in writing , i never went back there again , tried to get it reversed and the warranty company could care less .

she must have a non GM warranty , with that type you can do something like that , not with a factory back warranty though.

except for the hitch recall (no charge for that), and a leaking SRW, everything it is in for now is engine related.

i think the extended is (without looking at it, it's at home) a dodge warranty at least drivetrain.

Peter, I'm assuming that you have 36,900 miles on your truck. In that case if its an engine problem it is under the 5year 100,000 mile warranty, no deductable no nothing for you to pay. Break out your owners manual and warranty booklet and check it out!! Regards Pete

thanks, pete, i'll read that. you are right, 36. 9kmi. unfortunately the manual is in the truck at the dealer. i just assumed (and this time i was right!) that nothing was charged (except deductible. at least that's how it was for my trusted lee iacoca jeep. i didn't go in earlier for these problems as they weren't serious and just waited for a convenient time thinking i had 5yrs and 100kmi for the engine and 5yrs 75kmi for everything else.

just chaps me, you know.

5yr/100,000mi warranty for the Cummins and no deductible required. Cant beleive that dealership. Do they work on many Cummins? If they did there would be no question about the warranty.

Americana- Check your warranty and stand your ground- I have had problems with dc too- have had to call the 800 number a couple of times- #ad
(that will get a missle sent up someones #ad
my dealer knows better than to send me a 5 star comment card- If you get a chance, search for HVAC's, MCrossley posts they can help you with a dealer that may help.

dane,

what number did you call. they have given me two wrong numbers. one for roadside service and the other for the dealer warranty line.

the warranty i have is pro-rated if you cancel it.

i spoke to the service manager today and he told me that they only charge for trouble shooting if it winds up not being a warranty covered item. not what the boneheaded service writer said yesterday.

now i am just giving them enough rope to hang themselves with..... we'll see.

Americana, Yes I think all dealers charge that as I took my in because it is falling to start in which they believe my fuel injection pump is toast and they charged me $210 as well.

Call DC Customer satisfaction. I did and got a call from the Redwood City Dodge the next morning with a long and polite explanation why I had been waiting 4. 5 months for my truck to show up. The squeeky wheel still gets the oil, just don't over do it by blowing up on them and they will probably go to bat for you. 1st thing RC Dodge said on the phone was "did you call DC?" so I know DC must have called them. I'm interested in hearing your outcome as I think I purchased the same extended warranty. The one that is refundable if you don't use it?
