How much hassle is it to install cab lights?

Thanks fella's for all the opinions, I really appreciate it.

After stewing over it a couple days I am still pretty dang mad that the middle light was installed wrong. I will see about trying to get it fixsed, but like most have said it won't be worth the trouble to fix it. I think they may can bondo the original holes and move the light back to the proper position and have the bondo still covered up by the light, but we'll just have to see.

Should I persue compensation from the dealer for this error? I know everybody makes mistakes and all, but this should have been just as easy as changing a tire yet they screwed up MY $40,000 truck. If i should get compensation, who would I go to about this? Owner of dealership, district D/C rep, or who? Thanks guys for the opinions, while I'm still angry about this, hearing other people's opinions does help.

lights

I think it looks pretty good and the reason I say this because it is cool to be different from the rest that is the name of the game to have with others dont have and thats what all our rigs unique. Matt 2004. 5 silver qc laramie 4x4

I noticed the screws are on the sides of your lights. The correct lights should have one at the front and one at the back of each light -- none on the sides. I wonder where they got them from. Maybe e-bay for a couple bucks. :)

Either way -- I think they look okay.

I agree with most guys that it would cause more problems to fix it then it would be to leave it alone. I don't think it worth it to do $400 of body work to potentially ruin a $40,000 truck... but... if you don't like the way they are, then talk to the dealer, and if you ***** enough, try and get free maintenance or something I dunno. I personally don't think they look that bad, kinda cool.

I would say that if your truck was stock, I would take it back and get a new one with the lights installed correctly.

This happened when my parents bought their BMW X5, they found out that ALL the windows were damaged by heat and were wavy/hazy, and they got a new one. Just tell them if they don't take care of you , then you are going to get an attorney on retainer.

My . 02 cents

I agree with PATRIOT_Ram, those lights aren't like the rest of ours. I would (like others said) probably live with the misplacement of the lights. On the other hand this could possibly explain why they didn't use a template because the knock-off brand lights didnt come with one. If they in fact aren't factory lights i would on my way to your dealer right now to complain

These lights were purchased at the dealer parts department. I bought them about 2 weeks before I took it in for installation, thinking I would do them myself . I realised from reading on here that is was somewhat difficult, so I took it to the dealer to have them do it. So yes, they should in fact be 2005 Dodge lights. Add yet another in a long list of complaints in this matter.

Maybe the bozo that installed them thinks by doing them that way it is his installers signature? Every one that see's a set of those lights like that on other trucks will know that bone head joe installed them.

Tomey had a good idea. There looks to be enough room to move the middle one back a bit and still keep the extra holes covered and sealed. And if you can't move the middle one far enough back to make it look good to you, maybe move the two to the side's of the middle one foward a little also to help with the looks.

I installed the clearance lights myself . The kit came from the local Mopar/Dodge dealer. These are my results using the supplied template:

I've never given them anymore thought after installing them. Like them the way they are. JM2cW.

Looking at the last truck it looks like maybe the lights may be installed correct after all, it looks like the center light on this truck is also forward.

Oh, man, I'm going to be embarrassed if all this time it was just the angle of the photo that made me think those lights were all messed up.

It is certainly not the angle ofthe photo that did anything. It looks like when ordering the mopar lights, they include a template that forces you to install them with the middle light installed in front of the other 2 middle lights. Why they do this I have no idea, it certainly does not match the 3500 lights.

Appears the middle light is installed too far forward. What in the world other than kicking some grease monkey's ***** can I do? I guess the ******** will have to bondo?

I am about to go ape $^%#... . never again will Courtesy Dodge touch my truck after this is over.

Woooooooo, I just went back and looked at the picture you posted abd compaired it to mine. Your lights are NOT the same as mine. Look at the screws. Stock factory lights have a screw in the front and one in the back. Yours are side by side and the lights don't even look the same. I think they sold you a set from Pep Boys. Check out the screws on mine and then look at your lights and you will see what I am talking about. With that in mind, I would at least go back and have them refund what you paid and call it even for messing up the install. As for fixing the truck, I would hate to see how bad it ends up if they have the same guy do the body work. #@$%!

From the various photos it looks like the factory lights have screws in front and back and the Mopar aftermarket kit has them on the sides.

Whether it's the angle of the photo or the tech not being careful they look okay as they are. If it was my truck I'd let it be rather than having the roof patched and painted. Patching and painting would open up a whole host of new chances for someone to screw your truck up. If you want to know for sure whether they're right or not, have the shop show you a template.

The lights with the screws on the side are the late 2nd gen style lights, they are what comes in the mopar 3rd gen kit. The lights with the screws on the ends are the correct lights for the 3rd gen trucks. As far as I know, you cannot get the real 3rd gen lights any other way then coming on the truck from the factory.

DixieDawg I also had my '03 fitted with Cab Clearance lights at the dealer and mine look like yours. I was perfectly happy until..... Just kidding. Mine are like yours and I think they look fine. The only ones who know different are us Mopar folks and like some of the other posts, I be afraid of what the repair results would be like.

Dixie, I have seen several 05's with the lights exactly like yours. Looks good, and do not worry about a thing! Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

mine are just like 2gen3gen. but i see nothing wrong with yours. i would NOT change yours. im picky as heck also but i wouldnt change them now that they are installed.
