Looking to get a new travel trailer, dry weight is 5,300 lbs and i don't feel my 07. 5 6. 7 will have a problem at all. But just for ha ha's, i'm trying to find out how i can determine if i have a 3. xx or 4. xx. I've got the original window sticker but all it says is 68RFE Transmission, and 11. 50 Rear Axle. When i bought the truck i remember seeing on other stickers it had either 3. xx or 4. xx

Anyone know where can i find this info? Not the most mechanical person in the world so please excuse my ignorance. :)

Thanks.

I have a 2008 4X4 with 3. 73 diff gears and a 68RFE trans. The easiest way is to see what the RPM'S are at 60 MPH. When I am in 6th gear, I am doing 1500RPM's with stock tires. My tire size is LT265X70R17E.

Hope this helps.

If your window sticker doesn't have the 4. 10's listed as an option you probably have the 3. 73's. There should be a sticker somewhere in your truck. My 02 has it inside the glove box glued to the door. Or you could crawl under the truck to see if there is a tag on the rearend... . Jeff

how bout the build sheet. if you donot have one take your vin to a dodge dealer and they can print one for you...

Thanks. Will have to get the VIN#.

As for the Equip Ident Sticker (EIS), the first place i looked was in the glove box but no sticker. Did they move it someplace else for the 07. 5? Didn't see it on any of the door pillars also.

I guess it really doesn't matter though. According to the Dodge.com/towing page, both the 3. 73 and 4. 10 have the same gross vehicle weight, and can both have a gross combined vehicle weight of 20,000. Course, I don't plan to test that. Trying to get a travel trailer that, combined with the 6K lbs of truck, would put me in the 10,000 - 12,000 range.

On a side note, i've got both the 4-pin and 7-pin plugs / connectors. It's also got the hitch mounted to the frame. Was looking to see if its a Class III or IV. Anyway to tell besides having the dealer do a VIN check?

I don't think so unless that has been changed. Normally Dodge rates the trucks w/4. 10 differential gears at 2000 lbs. higher GCWR.

The Cummins engine is easily capable of pulling either but starting the load or backing up a grade when loaded heavy it makes a difference.

HB, I was told something similar by a co-worker who's a Cummins fanatic (he wasn't sure of the exact number, but thought at least a couple K more than the 3. 73 gears also). Going thru my owners manual, we saw were it said to get the GCWR, go to Towing Capacity and Payload of Dodge Vehicles So we went there. To his surprise, both listed the same exact numbers. Options selected when choosing the Ram 2500 were: SLT, 6. 7, 68RE, 4x2, Mega, 6. 3 box. He thinks they have the numbers screwed up on the site on purpose so they can't get sued. I don't know if they are right or wrong, but both you and him agree that with a 4. 10, it should have a little more GCWR. Course, at the bottom, the disclaimer "Consult your dealer for full details on the towing capabilities of the vehicle" is stated, but i'm not gonna bother. Maybe I'm anal in wanting to know the exact details  He tells me don't worry about it, truck won't break a sweat pulling 6,800 lbs. :-laf

I guess I'll try the spin tire and count shaft spins. Got nothing else to do tomorrow :)

Thanks for the info guys!
