alright guys im kinda thinkin i have a bad syncro but im not sure. truck has been gettin kinda stiff to get in gear especially reverse. i was kinda hot roddin it around last night and when i took the truck this mornin i just threw it in reverse and it moved the whole truck like the clutch was still engaged. its only doin it in reverse though all the other gears are ok. i tried adjustin the cluch a little bit, checked the transmission fluid, and pulled the shift tower off to see if i could see anything. im gonna flush it tomorrow and see if that helps what do you guys think???

When you put it into gear, you are stopping the transmission from spinning (this is typically what you need to do on larger truck transmissions for reverse and the first 2/3 gears you use to start forward).

By chance, did you end up jamming it into reverse when moving forward? If so, you could have damaged the syncro on reverse.

no i didnt jam it in reverse. and it had to have happened last night i just never had to back up till this mornin thats why i never noticed last night

It sounds like your reverse synchro is going bad. My 6 speed has been that way for the last 130,000 miles. I just put it into a forward gear first to stop the transmission then into reverse.

If you leave your foot on the clutch, will the transmission eventually stop turning? If it does, you will eventually be able to put it into reverse. If it continues to spin, you will never be able to get it into reverse with out putting it into a gear first.

If this is the case, you could also be suffering from the first signs of a clutch failure (from lack of fully separating).

ill have to tinker with it again tomorrow but it is a brand new sbc 3850 cer dd clutch only has like 1000 miles on it cuz my sbc fe started slippin after i put the silver bullet on the truck

You might have an issue with the clutch. This news might sound bad...

I had a 3850-12CB fail on my truck after a few thousand miles. Peter took care of it and replaced it gratis. The clutch was not built correctly, and the rivets on the center of the clutch disk were contacting the flywheel, not letting the clutch fully disengage.
The bad part was, I had to pull out the transmission, and send the clutch back to Peter ($130 to ship clutch + time to R&R transmission, my dime).

I have a new one that is significantly better now.

k i changed the oil in it today to castrol syntorq and it does seem to shift better but it still grinds goin straight to reverse just not as bad. Any ideas

I added limited slip differential additive to my 6 speed - cleared up my problems. It worked with the Dodge additive & when I changed fluid, I used Amsoil's additive.

There's a couple of threads about this, do a search.
