I am upgrading to a 4" exhaust on my '03. I bought the 5161570AA '05 Elbow from the local dealer. It came in a Cummins box with a Mopar sticker on it, but I have doubts that it is the right part that is in the box. One end has two pins in it and measures about 3. 75" for the I. D. It looks like this end should attach to the turbo. The other end measures about 3. 375" for the I. D. The casting number is 3593384.

My concern started when I fit the elbow up to the Silverline DS105 exhaust pipe and the pipe damn near swallowed the elbow.

I know it is highly unlikely, but could this be an '03 elbow?

I haven't pulled the truck apart yet, and don't really want to until I have confidence the parts are right.

If this is the right part, should I expect the V clamp to wrap the exhaust pipe around the cast flange on the elbow? I think it is a lot to ask the clamp to do.

Thanks in advance for the help,

Bill

I agree with you, but I've never installed such a system. I do know that the stock exhaust pipe is held rigidly to the flange on the elbow using a special clamp. I would expect an aftermarket exhaust to fit the same way.

The pins at the other end of the elbow fit into holes in the turbine exit casing so you're guaranteed to get the elbow properly positioned.

Thanks, Ryan. You confirmed for me which end goes to the turbo.

Now I really don't think I have the right part.

Anybody out there have a take-off elbow they could throw a ruler across the outlet of and confirm the I. D. ?

I just changed my downpipe and elbow myself last week. I wanted to upgrade to the 04. 5 / 05 elbow to help the turbo spool and hopefully lower EGT's.

I purchased a used elbow from Rip @ Source automotive, and a Diamond Eye downpipe for an 05 from DPP.

the new cast elbow is 3 5/8" ID all the way through, the old (03) elbow is 3 5/8" ID at the turbo and 3" ID at the downpipe.

I am not sure about the part# because I am not with my truck to check it out. If the two ends, inside diameter, on the elbow you have are not the same, you have the wrong part.

Also, the V-band clamp from the 03 will not fit the new elbow on the downpipe side, (the turbo side is the same), trust me! You need one from am 04. 5 or newer, I could not find one locally, 4" too small, 5" too big. I had to order from Dishman Dodge.

Again, another tip if you do not mind, knock those little alignment pins off the elbow with a cold chisel. You will have a lot more "wiggle" room to make everything fit for good clearance.

Hope that helps, Jess

Thanks guys! I bought two clamps from Dodge - I figured for the few dollars involved, I didn't want to try and re-use the almost five year old clamp on the turbo.

When I get home I'll have to get out the vernier and get better diameter measurements than I got with the ruler. I'm quite sure they are not the same though.
