Competition high 12's low 13's with 24v?

Hello all...

I'm an "old time" drag racer... . (10. 85 Camaro on DOT's) first time Dodge owner..... along with first time CTD owner... .

Question at hand... .

When I race my 2 buddies (LLY Chivvy and a 6. 0 Ferd :-{} ) both bombed... . whats the best "hole shot" technique and or "drag race" technique in general??

2006 2500 Mega, CTD, 48RE, 3. 73, 285's, Bully Dog triple dog on tow/econ, muffler delete and a patridge in a pear tree... ..... :-laf

Thanks-BJ

As in simply "power braking" till the boost comes up..... than let 'er buck??

I dont have gauges yet... . can you tell by the sound when the boost is climbing??

keep the brake on and give it about 1/4 throttle and let the RPM's come up a bit, turbo whistle will get louder, gauges would help this out knowing where you are, when your ready give it the go pedal and let off the brake. Your truck has"torque management" which shoudnt allow you to break anything but holding back a truck while making boost will cause some transmission temps so get some gauges, (EGT, Boost, Trans temp).

I would say remove the ring in the turbo, power brake with throttle till you can hear the turbo start to "whine" a little. That should put you around 10 lbs of boost. Just a hair more and the engine will go and not stall.

One thing though, be careful with how much boost you make the transmission hold. You can break a shaft.

OK... I figured as much... just its not the same as a gasser... I will get some gauges and practice... . I have to say the torque management is obvious... cant do a brake stand BUT does a burn out just off the line when the turbo spools up!!!... BJ

Jeff... ... ... Whatcha telling that feller. What do you moniter, boost, ET, and speed. The track takes care of the latter. All he need is the booster gauger.

If you pump the brakes, a little, while the boost is building... . she'll smok'em all day.

1. Stand on the binders.

2. 3/4 - full throttle

3. listen for the whine

4. pump em just a little to let em brake loose

5. give her hell

Jim,

If you've ever watched the Buick V6 turbo cars launch, they use a similar technique, especially since quite a few of them are on the squeeze and traction is limited. They leave soft with crappy 60-foot times, but pull like hell from 100ft out. You've got a heck of a lot more torque than the 3. 8V6 turbo cars have, but you want to avoid axle hop and wheelspin... too much boost and you're gonna leave yourself standing in a cloud of white smoke :)

I'd never drag race in 4 wheel drive. Talk about breaking something. It's my opinion, and we all know about those, that you're running the risk of breaking u-joints launching at a drag strip in 4 Hi. Besides that, the tech inspectors will tell you not to put it in 4 wheel. They don't like having to sweep up all the parts and call the wrecker.

I always do!!! Never broke anything yet (knock on wood. . ). Heck, one time I drove about 30 miles with the camper on my truck and the boat in tow with it in 4wd.

I used to leave my 74 dodge in 4 wheel all the time.

When I race though, I pull it out around the top of 3rd. I dont get any wheelspin in 4th (I do in 2wd in 3rd).

Just my opinion,

i also leave in 4hi shift out in the middle of second . i leave at 20psi boost. but with a stock transmission maybe you should leave around 5psi. thank god for billet
