I had a Mopar Jacob Exhaust Brake given to me by a friend in the Auto Wrecking business. Just the unit itself with no accessories. Can someone offer some suggestions or list of parts I will need to complete the setup? I have a 97 12V 5spd and no experience with exhaust brakes. Any help will be appreciated.

First of all I HATE YOU!#@$%!

Now that that's outta the way! :-laf

I would call Jacobs because you will have to probably get it from them reguardless. I don't know their website for sure but if you did a search you could find it. :D

You need some hoses, switch(es), and the vacuum solenoid... I suspect that if you call BD Power at 800-887-5030, or other vendor of your choiced, they can sell you the stuff you need. The main thing is the solenoid. You can get hoses from a parts house, and the switching depends on your preferred way of activating it. BD, Pac, etc. have a switch under the accelerator pedal so the brake comes on any time a regular switch has the unit on, and the accel pedal comes back to idle position. Some prefer to have the brake come on without fail whenever the switch is turned on, and if you feel that way, you can buy a switch at Radio Shack, etc. .

12 valvers - does he need the 60# exhaust springs? I thought that with some of the 12 valve engines you needed heavier exhaust springs - real important if you need them, but I'm not the best person for this question...

I did for the PACbrake. There are 2 holes in the butterfly, and a plug for one of them. If you use the plug, you need the 60# springs. Don't know how the Jacobs is set up.

If I can find them I'll copy the parts list and install instructions for mine and send them to you. PM me your address. 60 lb springs came as part of the kit. So did a throttle return spring, among other things, that cost me nearly $50:--) to replace when it broke.

Thank you for your replies. The information is a big help. I understand that in order to get the best benefit from the exhaust brake I will need to install the 60# valve springs. At least on the exhaust side, but I would like to do the intake side also as i plan on installing a governor spring kit in the future.
