Anybody out there have an exhaust manifold handy? I need the dimensions of the inside where it mates to the turbo so I can get the correct length EGT probe.
All the "K" type EGT probes I have seen are adjustable.
If you are not removing the turbo for drilling and tapping (which I am not recommending, BTW); mark the exposed portion at the top of the fitting, bottom the probe in the manifold, mark the probe, measure between the two marks, divide by two and mark, and the probe should be in the center and ready for tightening.
Check out this link from Diesel Injection Service for "Pyrometer Installation Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel. "
I am trying to find the dimensions because the place I am purchasing the K type thermocouple from has several different sizes. They are made from a material (can't remember what right now) that is much better than the stainless ones from Autometer. The same place also sells excellent guages, but they are too big for me to fit anywhere . They are about 3" and have tell-tales on them (like on a tackometer, but they have 2). Extremely nice, but I just can't fit them in or I would be using them. BTW, he also has pressure guages (liquid filled) that are similar w/ tell-tales on them as well.
I was just trying to get the depth so that I can get a probe that is not sticking out too far.
